Sedimentation–consolidation modeling with an interaction coefficient

Computers and Geotechnics, 2009
Abstract This paper examines the use of an interaction coefficient to couple sedimentation and consolidation phenomena with the conventional finite strain consolidation theory. A specific continuous interaction function was implemented and the resulted model was examined.

Consolidation Coefficient: Cohesive Soil Mixtures

Journal of the Soil Mechanics and Foundations Division, 1964
The coefficient of consolidation of a mixture of two cohesive soils consolidated under a given pressure is expressed mathematically in terms of the coefficients of consolidation of the individual component soils, determined at the same pressure, and the various percentages by weight of these components.

Diagnostic Curve Methods for Consolidation Coefficient

International Journal of Geomechanics, 2007
Two new diagnostic curve methods, which do not require the implicit or explicit determination of initial or final dial gauge readings for primary settlement, are proposed for the identification of the consolidation coefficient. Besides the estimate of the consolidation coefficient, these methods also yield an estimate of the range of primary settlement.

Evaluating the coefficient of consolidation using penetration tests

International Journal of Physical Modelling in Geotechnics, 2001
This paper discusses the potential for using variable rate penetration tests as a means of assessing the consolidation coefficient for fine-grained soils. Previous testing has shown that the penetration resistance increases as the rate of penetration decreases, owing to partial consolidation in the soil ahead of the advancing probe.

New Method of Consolidation–Coefficient Evaluation

Journal of the Soil Mechanics and Foundations Division, 1961
Use of logarithm of time methods based on laboratory consolidation or oedometer tests; readings of compression dial as function of time; new technique is presented for determination of coefficients of consolidation in soils from volume changes which take place during consolidation process; it utilizes ratio of compressions taking place up to different ...

Coefficient of Consolidation for Vertical and Radial Drainage

2018
The knowledge of the rate at which the settlement of clay layer takes place is very important in the design of vertical drain. The coefficient of consolidation, whether it is vertical or radial drainage (cv or cr) plays an important role in the design of vertical drains and it controls accurate prediction of rate of consolidation of soil.

Measurement of the Coefficient of Consolidation of Lacustrine Clay

Géotechnique, 1959
Synopsis The results of 230 consolidation tests on glacial lake clay are described in which the influences of direction and length of drainage, shape of sample, stress conditions of test, and scatter of results have been investigated. The experiments indicate why the rate of drainage under field conditions using sand drains can be three to four times
