Work equivalent composite coefficient of restitution

International Journal of Impact Engineering, 2004
For collisions between hard bodies that have dissimilar material properties, a composite coefficient of restitution (COR) can be calculated if, for each body, the material properties and COR values for self-similar collisions are known. The composite COR represents the energy dissipated during a collision between materially-dissimilar bodies.

Coefficients of Restitution

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1992
Simplified procedures for predicting post-collision motion in a mechanical system usually incorporate a “coefficient of restitution,” a ratio that must be estimated before the prediction can be completed. Two such ratios have been widely used for some time and a third has been introduced recently by W. J. Stronge.

Negative coefficient of normal restitution

Physical Review E, 2012
This paper shows that negative coefficients of normal restitution occur inevitably when the interaction force between colliding particles is finite. We derive an explicit criterion showing that for any set of material properties there is always a collision geometry leading to negative restitution coefficients.

Coefficient of restitution of aspherical particles

Physical Review E, 2014
We consider the motion of an aspherical inelastic particle of dumbbell type bouncing repeatedly on a horizontal flat surface. The coefficient of restitution of such a particle depends not only on material properties and impact velocity but also on the angular orientation at the instant of the collision whose variance is considerable, even for small ...
