Reconstruction of Wavelet Coefficients Using Total Variation Minimization [PDF]

open access: yesSIAM Journal on Scientific Computing, 2003
Summary: We propose a model to reconstruct wavelet coefficients using a total variation minimization algorithm. The approach is motivated by wavelet signal denoising methods, where thresholding small wavelet coefficients leads to pseudo-Gibbs artifacts.

Variation of the Fine-Structure Constant and Laser Cooling of Atomic Dysprosium

open access: yes, 2008
Radio-frequency electric-dipole transitions between nearly degenerate, opposite parity levels of atomic dysprosium (Dy) were monitored over an eight-month period to search for a variation in the fine-structure constant, $\alpha$.

Effects of electrospinning parameters on polyacrylonitrile nanofiber diameter: an investigation by response surface methodology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Effects of material and process parameters on the diameter of electrospun polyacrylonitrile fibers were experimentally investigated. Response surface methodology (RSM) was utilized to design the experiments at the settings of solution concentration ...

Reduced vascular leakage correlates with breast carcinoma T regulatory cell infiltration but not with metastatic propensity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A mouse model for vascular normalization and a human breast cancer cohort were studied to understand the relationship between vascular leakage and tumor immune suppression. For this, endothelial and immune cell RNAseq, staining for vascular function, and immune cell profiling were employed.

Fluctuations of the Shannon capacity in a Raleigh model of wireless communication [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Using the fact that the Shannon capacity C of a Raleigh model of wireless channels is a linear statistic of the channel matrix, we calculate its variance var[C]. We find that the expected value of the Shannon capacity is typical in the model considered,

Liquid biopsy epigenetics: establishing a molecular profile based on cell‐free DNA

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) fragments in plasma from cancer patients carry epigenetic signatures reflecting their cells of origin. These epigenetic features include DNA methylation, nucleosome modifications, and variations in fragmentation. This review describes the biological properties of each feature and explores optimal strategies for harnessing cfDNA ...

The association between hypoglycemia and glycemic variability in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes: a prospective observational study

open access: yesDiabetology & Metabolic Syndrome, 2021
Background This study aimed to explore predictive factors of time below target glucose range (TBR) ≥ 1% among patients’ characteristics and glycemic variability (GV) indices using continuous glucose monitoring data in elderly patients with type 2 ...

Coefficient of variation in flow cytometry of phagocytosis [PDF]

open access: yesCytometry, 1987
AbstractFluorescence histograms of V79 Chinese hamster lung cells containing phagocytized fluorescent microspheres were measured by flow cytometry. In the fluorescence histograms, the coefficient of variation (CV) of the peak for cells ingesting microspheres was not constant. Rather, it decreased with the number of microspheres ingested by the cells.

Anomalous Thermoelectric Response in an Orbital-Ordered Oxide Near and Far from Equilibrium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We report the thermoelectric transport properties in the orbital-ordered Mott insulating phase of Ca$_2$RuO$_4$ close to and far from equilibrium. Near equilibrium conditions where the temperature gradient is only applied to the sample, an insulating but

Detection of circulating tumor DNA in colorectal cancer patients using a methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed a cost‐effective methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex assay containing tissue‐conserved and tumor‐specific methylation markers. The assay can detect circulating tumor DNA with high accuracy in patients with localized and metastatic colorectal cancer.
