Zinc isotopes record lunar magmatic outgassing and surface processes in different Chang’e-5 samples
The Moon is depleted in moderately volatile elements compared with Earth, likely due to high-temperature processes during its formation. How this depletion evolved and the role of later surface processes remain unclear. Here we report high-precision zinc

PARTY‐STATE URBANISM: Coevolution of Local State Capacity and Strategic Alliances in Shenzhen
Abstract What is distinct about Chinese urban governance? Classic theories predict that when the central state retreats from resource allocation, capacity‐strained local governments must form alliances with non‐state actors, thereby diluting state power. In China, however, state power remains dominant despite decentralization.

Brood parasitism reduces but does not prevent Bombus terrestris reproductive success
Graphical depiction of the colony splitting process. Throughout figures in this paper, results pertaining to host success are represented in blue, and cuckoo success is represented in red. Abstract Cuckoo bumblebees are obligate brood parasites that must invade a colony of their host bumblebee species in order to reproduce.

Effect of the microbiome on pathogen susceptibility across four Drosophilidae species
Four Drosophilidae species were used to investigate how variation in the host microbiome influences susceptibility to infection. Microbial composition and abundance differed among species and treatments. The effects of microbiome manipulation on host survival were both species‐ and pathogen‐specific.

Sexual cannibalism (SC), where one mating partner consumes the other in the context of mating, is especially prevalent among spiders. However, the evolution of SC in spiders is still not fully understood. We review key hypotheses for SC and explore how female‐initiated SC has driven the evolution of various male counter‐adaptations to mitigate its ...

Detectable Continental Crust in the Earth's Deep Interior Inferred From Thermodynamic Modeling
Compelling evidence indicates that continental crust can subduct to >300 km and even enter the mantle transition zone (MTZ). However, detecting continental materials within the deep Earth is challenging due to our incomplete knowledge about their ...

Extreme Silk Toughness in Caerostris Spiders Is Limited to Adult Females
We ask whether species with exceptionally tough silk, like Caerostris bark spiders, show different developmental patterns in silk toughness between ontogenetic stages and sexes. We found that only large females produce exceptionally tough silk with higher initial stiffness, while juvenile females as well as adult and juvenile males produce inferior ...
