Cogging force alleviation in linear permanent magnet generators
AFRICON 2009, 2009In this paper a three-phase linear permanent magnet generator is designed for direct waves energy conversion. Its performance is then simulated using analytical and finite element method. Cogging force in this generator causes the oscillatory output power, shortens life time and increases the maintenance cost of the generator.

The effect of armature offset for the reduction of end cogging force
International Journal of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics, 2016Along with the increased interest in high-load transport system, the linear motor has evolved from the conventional single-sided model to a double-sided model with armatures on both sides of the mover. However, the linear motor generally has armatures installed on the full length of the transport path, resulting in the increase in material costs and ...

Research of the Cogging Force in TPMLSM with Unequal Pole-Pitch
2016 IEEE Vehicle Power and Propulsion Conference (VPPC), 2016Cogging force is one of the main factors causing the thrust fluctuation of permanent magnet synchronous linear motor, in order to effectively suppress the influence of cogging force on the thrust fluctuations, cogging force is analytical analyzed based on energy method and Fourier decomposition method ,this paper proposes unequal pole-pitch method of ...

Cogging-force-reduction techniques for linear permanent-magnet machines
IEE Proceedings - Electric Power Applications, 2005The paper describes two techniques for reducing the cogging force associated with the finite length of the ferromagnetic armature core of a tubular permanent-magnet machine. Analytical expressions for predicting the cogging force which is associated with armature cores having skewed or stepped end faces are established, and a cogging-force-minimisation

A novel linear-rotary permanent magnet actuator (LRPMA) is proposed in this paper, in which ferromagnetic poles and PM poles are mounted on the mover surface. A 3D analytical model without considering the stator slotting effect is presented for calculating no-load air-gap magnetic field, which transfers the tubular mover of the proposed LRPMA into a ...

Reduction of cogging force in PM linear motors by pole-shifting
IEE Proceedings - Electric Power Applications, 2005A technique is described to reduce cogging force in permanent-magnet linear motors due to the interaction between the permanent magnets (PMs) and the stator teeth. It consists of a proper shift of the PMs so that this effect is compensated for among the poles of the machine.

Cogging force mitigation of tubular permanent magnet machines with magnet dividing
2007 International Conference on Electrical Machines and Systems (ICEMS), 2007Cogging force produced in a tubular permanent magnet machines due to the interaction between the permanent magnets and the stator teeth causes an undesired vibration and noise. In applications such as robotics there is a need for precise position control and for this purpose force pulsation should be minimized.

In laser welding applications, either the laser beam or the workpiece has to be manipulated such that the seam to weld can be tracked. Gantry type of robots driven by linear direct drive synchronous motors can be applied as manipulator(s). In direct drive permanent magnet motor systems, disturbances due to cogging forces are directly noticeable at the ...

Design Modifications for Cogging Force Reduction in Linear Permanent Magnet Machines
2020 IEEE International Conference on Power and Energy (PECon), 2020The capability of Linear Permanent Magnet (LPM) machines to produce high thrust and power density are being utilized in industrial and defense sectors these days. However, the reluctance variation faced by secondary magnet flux due to primary slotting and end effects produces detent or cogging force, which results in high force ripples, noise and ...
