Cogging torque reduction in permanent-magnet synchronous machines with skew
2016 XXII International Conference on Electrical Machines (ICEM), 2016Cogging torque reduction with skewing techniques was explored on the MIT Robotic Cheetah. Skewed machines with either skewed rotors or stators were constructed, tested, and fielded on the robot. Results were compared with a convolution technique for predicting torque waveforms of skewed machines from the torque waveform of the unskewed machine ...

Reduction of cogging torque in spindle motors for CD-ROM drive
IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1998In this paper an approach to design a low cogging torque spindle motor without skewing stator slots or magnet poles is proposed. The effects of the slot and pole number combination and optimal choice of the width ratio of armature teeth to magnet pole are are investigated.

Cogging Torque Reduction Using Magnet Phase Inverted Shape in Dual Axial Gap Motor
2024 IEEE Industrial Electronics and Applications Conference (IEACon)This paper describes the design of permanent magnets for dual axial gap motors to reduce cogging torque. In this method, a radially segmented and circumferentially shifted skewed shape is designed and placed in the lower part of the rotor axial direction.

Cogging Torque Reduction of Hybrid Excitation Flux Switching Motor
2015 Fifth International Conference on Instrumentation and Measurement, Computer, Communication and Control (IMCCC), 2015This paper analyzes the cogging torque mechanism of the hybrid excitation flux switching motor. The finite element analysis (FEA) is used to study different cogging torque suppression methods of the motor. These methods include rotor skewing, variable tooth width, auxiliary slot, variable rotor arcs.

Study on cogging torque reduction methods of PM stepping motor
2004 International Conference on Power System Technology, 2004. PowerCon 2004., 2005Cogging torque is the main factor that causes a PM stepping motor to be shaken, noisy and even influences its safe operation. After introducing the structure of PM stepping motor, this paper analyzes the effect of the power supply mode on the electromagnetic torque, and the measures to reduce cogging torque of PM stepping motor.

Cogging torque reduction of brushless DC motor for an electric wheelchair
2016 IEEE Transportation Electrification Conference and Expo, Asia-Pacific (ITEC Asia-Pacific), 2016This paper presents a designing method to reduce the cogging torque of a brush less dc (BLDC) motor for an electric wheelchair. The initial model of a BLDC motor is designed by using the loading distribution method. Cogging torque is one of the main reasons not only to cause the torque ripple, but also to increase unwanted vibration of a BLDC motor ...

Noise and cogging torque reduction in brushless DC ceiling fan
2015 18th International Conference on Electrical Machines and Systems (ICEMS), 2015This paper presents the improvements in the design of a three phase BLDC motor for noise reduction. The end application of BLDC motor is a ceiling fan. Acoustic noise spectrum of the motor is captured and analyzed. It is shown that, the cogging torque is the dominant cause of the acoustic noise.

Cogging torque reduction in a novel axial flux PM motor
International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion, 2006. SPEEDAM 2006., 2006This article shows the reduction of cogging torque in a novel axial flux permanent magnet (AFPM) motor through the various design schemes. 3D finite element method is used for the exact magnetic field analysis. The effects of slot shapes and skewing of slot on the cogging torque and average torque have been investigated in detail.
