Boundary element method in reduction of cogging torque
IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1998A method to optimize the cogging torque of a brushless motor with parallel magnetized magnets is presented. The technique is based on the boundary element method. The optimal width of the magnet and the optimal shifts of the consecutive magnets are computed.

Cogging torque reduction of a permanent magnet canned motor
2016 IEEE 11th Conference on Industrial Electronics and Applications (ICIEA), 2016The method of adding auxiliary slots in the stator or rotor is presented to reduce the cogging torque of a permanent magnet (PM) canned motor. Based on the formula of cogging torque, the optimal number of auxiliary slots is derived. A 3D finite element (FE) method is used to analyze the effect of different shapes of auxiliary slots on the cogging ...

Cogging torque reduction with pole slot combination and notch
2014 International Conference on Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (ICEECS), 2014In this paper, we examine the basic method of reducing cogging torque by using the combination of slot and pole number with a simple software. The methods were applied to basic permanent machine designs and the performance was calculated using finite-element analysis (FEA).

Reduction of Cogging Torque by Notching Groove on Magnets in SMPMSM
2019 22nd International Conference on Electrical Machines and Systems (ICEMS), 2019Surface mount permanent magnet synchronous motor (SMPMSM) is widely used in industrial fields. In order to improve its working accuracy, the cogging torque needs to be reduced. This paper studies the effect of notching groove on magnets on cogging torque in SMPMSM.

Study on the Noise Reduction of BLDC Fan Motor by Cogging Torque Reduction
The Transactions of The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers, 2013It is very important to diminish noise source of electric motor systems that are used for home appliance area. We have studied on the noise reduction of BLDC motor, mainly focusing on reducing noise source from cogging torque. This noise source causes resonance of fan & motor systems.

Reduction of Cogging Torque and Torque Ripple in Modulated Pole Machines by Geometrical Changes
7th IET International Conference on Power Electronics, Machines and Drives (PEMD 2014), 2014In recent years significant improvements in the field of Modulated Pole Machines (MPMs) have been achieved, especially in electric vehicles applications. MPMs such as Transverse Flux Machines (TFMs) are known for producing high torque densities; though further research and improvements are needed to reduce the inherently high cogging torque and torque ...

Cogging torque reduction in permanent-magnet synchronous machines with skew
2016 XXII International Conference on Electrical Machines (ICEM), 2016Cogging torque reduction with skewing techniques was explored on the MIT Robotic Cheetah. Skewed machines with either skewed rotors or stators were constructed, tested, and fielded on the robot. Results were compared with a convolution technique for predicting torque waveforms of skewed machines from the torque waveform of the unskewed machine ...

Reduction of cogging torque in spindle motors for CD-ROM drive
IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1998In this paper an approach to design a low cogging torque spindle motor without skewing stator slots or magnet poles is proposed. The effects of the slot and pole number combination and optimal choice of the width ratio of armature teeth to magnet pole are are investigated.
