MDP25‐VDAC3 Complex Orchestrates Actin Remodeling and Mitochondrial Dynamics to Modulate Innate Immunity in Arabidopsis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that actin remodeling regulates mitochondrial elongation as a defense strategy in plants. Flagellin perception induces fusion‐dependent elongation, supported by cortical actin bundles, to repair damage and boost ATP and ROS production.

Relative complexity in a model of word difficulty: The role of loanwords in vocabulary size tests

open access: yesStudies in Second Language Learning and Teaching
Recent studies have shown that the frequency effect, although long used as a guide to word difficulty, fails to explain all variance in learner word knowledge.

Introducing a Romanian Frequency List and the Romanian Vocabulary Levels Test [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Vocabulary is considered essential to language learning, thus English word lists and tests based on frequency information have become the centre of attention for researchers, teachers and learners alike.

HSP70 Interactome‐Mediated Proteolysis Targeting Chimera (HSP70‐PROTAC) for Ferroptosis‐Driven Cancer Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reports a novel targeted protein degradation strategy termed “HSP70‐PROTAC” that recruits Hsc70 complex to a target protein for inducing degradation. Among them, GDAz‐3 exhibits effective GPX4 degradation activity via UPS/CMA processes, triggering ferroptosis‐driven anticancer activity in vitro and in vivo.

A Natural Sweetener‐inducible Genetic Switch Controls Therapeutic Protein Expression in Mammals

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study develops a natural sweetener, the psicose‐inducible transgene expression (PURE) system based on an Agrobacterium tumefaciens–derived transcriptional repressor PsiR. The PURE system is highly specific to psicose, being insensitive to other sugars and structurally similar molecules.

Spanish- English partial cognates: analysis of their use in academic texts

open access: yesSantiago, 2017
Partial cognates are words in two languages that share similar visual and phonetic features, and its meaning in both can also be similar in some contexts, but different in others.

Interactions between formal distance and participant-related variables in receptive multilingualism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Recognizing cognates in a related but unknown language (Lx) is of key importance in receptive multilingualism. Many studies have consequently investigated the impact of both item-related characteristics (most notably the cognates’ formal distance to ...

Antiemesis Corticosteroids Potentiate Checkpoint Blockade Efficacy by Normalizing the Immune Microenvironment in Metastatic Murine Breast Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Corticosteroids improve the efficacy of immune checkpoint blockade therapy in metastatic murine breast cancer. By normalizing the tumor immune microenvironment, corticosteroids reduce immunosuppressive signals, restore T‐cell function, and promote antitumor immune responses, resulting in enhanced tumor control.

Real-Time Identification of Parallel Texts from Bilingual Newsfeed [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Parallel texts are documents that present parallel translations. This paper describes a simple method that can be deployed on a real-time news feed to create an infinitely growing source of parallel texts in French and English. Our experiment was lead on

SUPER: Upcycling Genetic Parts for Precise Gene Expression Control, Leakage Minimization, and Genetic Circuit Stability

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
To precisely modulate natural and synthetic regulatory parts, SUPER is introduced as a sophisticated and tunable controller of genetic devices without requiring sequence modification on the target. SUPER enhances dynamic range of RNA‐, chemical‐, temperature‐, and protein‐responsive biosensors up to 1011%, and converts biosensors to cover an expanded ...
