open access: yesCognition, 2021

Seventy-six Polish participants were presented with 24 nonwords paired with pictures; they completed 8 interleaving test blocks of form production and meaning recognition, both followed by feedback.

False friends in theFanfanyu [PDF]

open access: yesActa Orientalia Academiae Scientiarum Hungaricae, 2012
In the present article, a remarkable phenomenon is brought to the attention of those interested in early Chinese translations of Buddhist texts: false friends in the Fanfanyu (T54n2130). Flatness is a False Friend

open access: yesCoRR, 2020
Hessian based measures of flatness, such as the trace, Frobenius and spectral norms, have been argued, used and shown to relate to generalisation. In this paper we demonstrate that for feed forward neural networks under the cross entropy loss, we would expect low loss solutions with large weights to have small Hessian based measures of flatness.

Brain synchronizability, a false friend

open access: yesNeuroImage, 2019
Synchronization plays a fundamental role in healthy cognitive and motor function. However, how synchronization depends on the interplay between local dynamics, coupling and topology and how prone to synchronization a network with given topological organization is are still poorly understood issues.

We show that Go Ethereum (Geth), the most widely used Ethereum implementation, is vulnerable to eclipse attacks ...

Diachronic Investigations of False Friends

open access: yesSuvremena lingvistika, 2008
Lažni parovi, tj. parovi riječi u dva ili više jezika koje su slične ili istovjetne u pisanju ili izgovoru, a različita su značenja, već su dugo vrijeme vrlo popularna tema u lingvistici (Koessler and Derocquigny 1928, Ivir 1968, Nilsen 1977, Chamizo Domínguez and Nerlich 2002). Poznati su po tome što stvaraju teškoće pri učenju stranih jezika jer zbog

A Friend in Need Is a Friend Indeed. Beware of False Friends,Though!

open access: yesScientific Bulletin of Naval Academy, 2018
Have you ever been deceived by a friend? A very unpleasant feeling, indeed! This can happen with language learning - no, this does not mean that your fellow learners are malicious, but that sometimes a word means something completely different than you think it does based on your knowledge of other languages or of your mother tongue.

open access: yes, 2016
This thesis is devoted to the problem of translator’s false friends which are considered to be one of the most serious issues in the context of the theory and practice translation. There is no doubt the fact that the translation is a very ancient kind of human activity.
