Transformation of Cognitive Maps

IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems, 2010
Cognitive maps (CMs), fuzzy cognitive maps (FCMs), and dynamical cognitive networks (DCNs) are related tools for modeling the cognition of human beings and facilitating machine inferences accordingly. FCMs extend CMs, and DCNs extend FCMs. Domain experts often face the challenge that CMs/FCMs are not sufficiently capable in many applications and that ...

A conjoined cognitive map

Nature Reviews Neuroscience, 2021
A neural manifold analysis reveals that the hippocampus encodes both spatial and learned abstract information from the environment in a conjoined cognitive map.

A reader for the cognitive map

Information Sciences, 1997
Abstract A local diffusion model (Staddon and Reid, 1990) can reproduce exponential and Gaussian stimulus-generalization gradients. We show that a two-dimensional diffusion model, together with simple reinforcement assumptions, can reproduce many of the empirical properties of goal-directed spatial search, including area-restricted search, open-field

Contextual Cognitive Map

2008
The model of cognitive maps introduced by Tolman [1] provides a representation of an influence network between notions. A cognitive map can contain a lot of influences that makes difficult its exploitation. Moreover these influences are not always relevant for different uses of a map.

ON THE NATURE OF COGNITIVE MAPS

Journal of Management Studies, 1992
This issue of the journal of management studies is devoted to a selection of articles that explore the uses of cognitive maps or cause maps for research and intervention in organizations. Before introducing the articles I shall introduce the topic iteslf and seek to clarify its status in relation to its aims.

Cognitive map architecture

IEEE Robotics & Automation Magazine, 2009
We have developed the Cognitive Map robot architecture that minimizes the amount of rewriting of existing legacy software for integration. The Cognitive Map can be thought of as a centralized information space for connected components to contribute both internal and environmental state information.

Cognitive Map Routing

2016
We introduce a framework to navigate agents in buildings, inspired by the notion of “the cognitive map”. It allows to route agents depending on their spacial knowledge. With help of an event-driven mechanism, agents acquire new information about their surroundings, which expands their individual cognitive map.

Hierarchical cognitive maps

Neural Networks, 2003
We describe a computational model of spatial navigation based on experimental studies conducted with human participants. The model builds and uses a hierarchical cognitive map of a large environment. Computer simulations show that the model correctly describes experimental results including hierarchical organization of space and distance estimation ...

Cognitive maps and attention

2009
Cognitive map theory suggested that exploring an environment and attending to a stimulus should lead to its integration into an allocentric environmental representation. We here report that directed attention in the form of exploration serves to gather information needed to determine an optimal spatial strategy, given task demands and characteristics ...

Fuzzy cognitive maps

International Journal of Man-Machine Studies, 1986
Summary: Fuzzy cognitive maps (FCMs) are fuzzy-graph structures for representing causal reasoning. Their fuzziness allows hazy degrees of causality between hazy causal objects (concepts). Their graph structure allows systematic causal propagation, in particular forward and backward chaining, and it allows knowledge bases to be grown by connecting ...
