Earth networks: ‘The Human Surge’ and cognitive mapping

open access: yesNECSUS, 2018
This article explores the way in which the global can be imagined in the cinema by taking up the concept of cognitive mapping as proposed by Marxist cultural theorist Fredric Jameson.

Dietary Protein Intake and Peritoneal Protein Losses in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients lose protein in their waste dialysate, potentially increasing their risk for malnutrition. We wished to determine whether there was any association between losses and dietary protein intake (DPI). Methods DPI was assessed from 24‐h dietary recall using Nutrics software.

Evaluating the impact of denoising diffusion MRI data on tractometry metrics of optic tract abnormalities in glaucoma

open access: yesScientific Reports
Diffusion MRI (dMRI)-based tractometry is a non-invasive neuroimaging method for evaluating white matter tracts in living humans, capable of detecting abnormalities caused by disorders. However, measurement noise in dMRI data often compromises the signal

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Performance-based metacognitive tests versus self-report: what does prediction tell us?

open access: yesPsicologia: Reflexão e Crítica
Background The measurements of metacognition through performance-based tasks are better predictors of academic performance than those based on self-report tests, but evidence on the prediction of academic performance by standardized performance-based ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.
