2010 IEEE Radar Conference, 2010
For the first time ever, this paper presents the design and implementation of a next-generation of tracking radar systems: the cognitive tracking radar (CTR). At the heart of the CTR, we have a cognitive waveform-selection (CWS) algorithm that can optimally pick the transmit waveform from a prescribed library, in response to information fed back from ...

Experiments with cognitive radar
IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Magazine, 2015This paper presents experimental results from a cognitive radar system. In the cognitive approach used, radar parameters are constantly self-monitored and self-adjusted so that radar performance remains at a level specified by the user. This is in stark contrast to traditional radar where parameters are fixed and the performance varies according to the

Fourth IEEE Workshop on Sensor Array and Multichannel Processing, 2006., 2006
This paper describes the use of cognitive radar networks for the reliable surveillance of an environment where the likelihood of the presence of uncooperative targets is high. Despite the limited effectiveness of amplitude as a radar discriminant, through the clever use of detection through tracking, the detection performance of the noncoherent radar ...

Cognitive Radar for Classification
IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Magazine, 2019The article presents the cognitive radar architecture of Fraunhofer FHR based on a three-layer model of human cognitive performance. The approach is illustrated using examples for non-cooperative target identification and classification. On the skill based layer, a target-matched waveform design is presented and experimental results are shown.

Abstract : In this report, a unique cognitive nonlinear radar (CNR) is introduced. Research and development efforts for the CNR are currently funded by the U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL). The CNR adapts to (1) an increasingly cluttered electromagnetic (EM) environment, a growing problem for ground-based and airborne radar systems; (2) multiple ...

Adaptive radar: evolution to cognitive radar
IEEE International Symposium on Phased Array Systems and Technology, 2003., 2004Summary form only given. Adaptive signal processing is considered to be one of the enabling technologies that will become increasingly dominant in the twenty-first century. Most important, it is well suited for use in the design of phased array radar systems, given the flexibility that such a radar system offers.

New Algorithms in Cognitive Radar
2018 11th International Congress on Image and Signal Processing, BioMedical Engineering and Informatics (CISP-BMEI), 2018Cognitive radar is a kind of new concept radar system which can solve the target detection problem under the complex environment. It can highly improve the radar performance through knowledge aided adaptive processing. In this paper, aimed at the crucial problems and the bottleneck which the traditional radar faces to, the concept and the configuration

Cognition means ‘kowning’ and is the process by which we know about the world‥ In human beings this is extremely complicated and although much is understood there is much more to be learnt. However, humans and perhaps more pertinently for radar systems, echo locating mammals are able to sense and interact with their environment in sophisticated ways ...

Practical Aspects of Cognitive Radar
2020 IEEE Radar Conference (RadarConf20), 2020In this paper we examine some of the practical aspects of implementing cognitive radar (CR) techniques onto software defined radar (SDRadar) platforms. These aspects include: 1) the response time (RT) of algorithms and components to determine latency bottlenecks, 2) autonomous regulation of the perception-action cycle (PAC) to determine “how fast the ...
