Introduction to the Special Issue on Structured Light Coherence
Statistical optics, and optical coherence in particular, developed into a stand-alone branch of physical optics in the second half of the 20th century and has found a number of ground-breaking applications in astronomical measurements, medical ...

Speckle statistics of biological tissues in optical coherence tomography
The speckle statistics of optical coherence tomography images of biological tissue have been studied using several historical probability density functions. Here, we propose a new theoretical framework based on power-law functions, where we hypothesize that an underlying power-law distribution governs scattering from tissues.

How to Statistically Model Coherent MPI in Optical Communications? [PDF]
The Beta distribution is used to model coherent MPI in optical communications and its fitness to describe experimental results is evaluated. It fits quite well to symmetric scenarios, but has some troubles when skewness matters.

At-wavelength characterization of X-ray wavefronts in Bragg diffraction from crystals
The advent of next-generation synchrotron radiation sources and X-ray free-electron lasers calls for high-quality Bragg-diffraction crystal optics to preserve the X-ray beam coherence and wavefront.

Statistics of Optical Coherence Tomography Data From Human Retina [PDF]
Optical coherence tomography (OCT) has recently become one of the primary methods for noninvasive probing of the human retina. The pseudoimage formed by OCT (the so-called B-scan) varies probabilistically across pixels due to complexities in the measurement technique.

Second-harmonic generation of temporally low-coherence light
In this Letter, we study the second-harmonic (SH) generation of temporally low-coherence light using the statistical optics method. By introducing the statistical characteristics of low-coherence light into the nonlinear coupled wave equation, we predict

In this paper, scattering medium with a semi-hard boundary is extended to the case of a quasi-homogeneous random medium for the first time. Applying the first-order Born approximation, far-field distribution of radially polarized partially coherent ...

Modeling for Partially Spatially Coherent Vortex Beams
We propose a method for modeling a wide class of partially spatially coherent vortex beams. It is shown that any member of such beams can be represented as an incoherent superposition of fully coherent vortex models weighted by a non-negative weighting ...
