A Dressed Spin Qubit in Silicon

open access: yes, 2016
Coherent dressing of a quantum two-level system provides access to a new quantum system with improved properties - a different and easily tuneable level splitting, faster control, and longer coherence times.

Rafting of Ni‐Based Superalloys Under Multiaxial Load as Understood by Phase‐Field Simulations and Critical Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Phase‐field simulations coupled with dislocation‐density‐based crystal plasticity modeling reproduce γ′ rafting behavior in single‐crystal Ni‐based superalloys under varied loading conditions. The model captures both macroscopic creep and microscopic morphology evolution, with results matching high‐temperature creep experiments.

From Integers to Fractions: Developing a Coherent Understanding ofProportional Magnitude [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Children display an early sensitivity to implicit proportions (e.g., 1 of 5 apples vs 3 of 4 apples) but have considerabledifficulty in learning the explicit, symbolic proportions denoted by fractions (e.g., 1/5 vs 3/4). Theoretically, reducingthe gap between representations of implicit vs explicit proportions would improve understanding of fractions ...

Estimation of BER from Error Vector Magnitude for Optical Coherent Systems [PDF]

open access: yesPhotonics, 2016
This paper presents the estimation of bit error ratio (BER) from error vector magnitude (EVM) for M-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) formats in optical coherent systems employing carrier phase recovery with differential decoding to compensate for laser phase noise. Simulation results show that the relationship to estimate BER from EVM analysis

Supercurrent noise in quantum point contacts

open access: yes, 1995
Spectral density of current fluctuations in a short ballistic superconducting quantum point contact is calculated for arbitrary bias voltages $V$. Contrary to a common opinion that the supercurrent flow in Josephson junctions is coherent process with no ...

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Nuclear Spin Dynamics of Ionized Phosphorus Donors in Silicon

open access: yes, 2012
We demonstrate the coherent control and electrical readout of the nuclear spins of ionized phosphorus donors in natural silicon. By combining pulsed illumination with coherent electron spin manipulation, we selectively ionize the donor depending on its ...

Microstructure Design of Steel‐Spinel Composites via Spark Plasma Sintering Process

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study illustrates how spark plasma sintering at reduced oxygen partial pressure enables controlled formation of steel‐spinel composites through tailored redox reactions and cation exchange. Comparison of the MgO–Fe2O3, steel–(MgO+Cr2O3), and steel–(MgO+Fe2O3) systems shows how oxygen activity and interface chemistry govern spinel formation, phase ...

Optical bistability in one dimensional doped photonic crystals with spontaneously generated coherence

open access: yes, 2013
We investigate optical bistability in a multilayer one-dimensional photonic crystal where the central layer is doped with $\Lambda$-type three level atoms.

Exploring Dipolar Dynamics and Ionic Transport in Metal‐Organic Frameworks: Experimental and Theoretical Insights

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, the interplay of dipolar dynamics and ionic charge transport in MOF compounds is investigated. Synthesizing the novel structure CFA‐25 with integrated freely rotating dipolar groups, local and macroscopic effects, including interactions with Cs cations are explored.
