200 Gbit/s/λ PDM-PAM-4 PON system based on intensity modulation and coherent detection
IEEE\/OSA Journal of Optical Communications and Networking, 2019A low-complexity and cost-efficient coherent detection-based 100 Gb/s or beyond passive optical network (PON) has attracted a lot of attention in recent years, as this technology offers high receiver sensitivity, colorless frequency selectivity, and ...

We apply the mathematics of cognitive radio to a single receiver to obtain a new coherent energy metric. This allows us to derive the time correlation law separating Gaussian colored noise from coherent signal energy.

Towards quantum-limited coherent detection of terahertz waves in charge-neutral graphene
Nature Astronomy, 2019Spectacular advances in heterodyne astronomy1,2 have been largely due to breakthroughs in detector technology3. To exploit the full capacity of future terahertz (∼300 GHz–5 THz) telescope space missions4, new concepts of terahertz coherent receivers are ...

200-Gb/s/λ PDM-PAM-4 PON with 29-dB Power Budget Based on Heterodyne Coherent Detection
Optical Fiber Communications Conference and Exhibition, 2019The first single-wavelength 200-Gb/s PDM-PAM-4 PON is experimentally demonstrated in the C-band using Nyquist pulse shaping and heterodyne coherent detection. Over 29-dB power budget is achieved after 20-km SSMF fiber transmission.

Coherent detection of partially coherent sources
Optics Letters, 1980The mean square of the beating component of the photodetector output current of a coherent optical or infrared receiver, illuminated by partially coherent quasi-monochromatic radiation, is expressed in terms of the mutual intensity functions of the signal and local reference fields on the detector’s active surface.

Coherence requirement for partially coherent correlation detection
Applied Physics B Photophysics and Laser Chemistry, 1983The coherence requirement for correlation detection is determined using the theory of partially coherent light. It is shown that the requirement for temporal coherence strongly dependes on the spatial frequency and the spatial extension of the target (i.e., space bandwidth product).

Silicon–plasmonic integrated circuits for terahertz signal generation and coherent detection
Nature Photonics, 2018Optoelectronic signal processing offers great potential for generation and detection of ultra-broadband waveforms in the terahertz range (so-called T-waves). However, fabrication of the underlying devices still relies on complex processes using dedicated
