Coherent Doppler Lidar for Measurements of Wind Fields

Proceedings of the IEEE, 1989
The signal-processing techniques for obtaining the velocity estimates and the fundamental factors that influence coherent lidar performance are considered. The similarities and distinctions between Doppler lidar and Doppler radars are discussed. The capability of coherent Doppler lidars for mapping wind fields over selected regions in the lower ...

Coherent Doppler Lidar Signal Covariance Including Wind Shear and Wind Turbulence [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Optics, 1994
The performance of a coherent Doppler lidar is determined by the statistics of the coherent Doppler signal. The derivation and calculation of the covariance of the Doppler lidar signal for random atmospheric wind fields and wind shear are presented.

Doppler coherent wind lidar based on golvanometer scanner

2021 19th International Conference on Optical Communications and Networks (ICOCN), 2021
In order to improve the detection probability of wind lidar and realize three-dimensional velocity measurement, we propose a single-beam wind lidar based on golvanometer scanner, which realize velocity azimuth display scanning and measure radical velocity 360° on the circle at fixed height.

Coherent Doppler lidar signal spectrum with wind turbulence

Applied Optics, 1999
The average signal spectrum (periodogram) for coherent Doppler lidar is calculated for a turbulent wind field. Simple approximations are compared with the exact calculation. The effects of random errors in the zero velocity reference, the effects of averaging spectral estimates by use of multiple lidar pulses, and the effects of the range dependence of

Development of coherent Doppler lidar for wind profiling

SPIE Proceedings, 2005
Space-borne Doppler lidar is expected to make wind profile observations on a global scale with an accuracy of 1 to 2 m/s. It may solve the problem of the shortage of the accuracy and distribution in the current wind data. We have studied an eye-safe coherent Doppler lidar (CDL) model that could be deployed on the exposed facilities of Japanese ...

Coherent Doppler lidar measurements of winds in the weak signal regime

Applied Optics, 1997
In the weak signal regime coherent Doppler lidar velocity estimates are characterized by a localized distribution around the true mean velocity and a uniform distribution of random outliers over the velocity search space. The performance of velocity estimators is defined by the standard deviation of the good estimates around the true mean velocity and ...

All Fiber Coherent Doppler LIDAR for Wind Sensing

MRS Proceedings, 2008
ABSTRACTAn 1.5 micron pulsed Coherent Doppler LIDAR system using all fiber optical components has attracted attention for remote wind sensing application because of its eye-safety, reliability and easy deployment. We report on our key technologies such as fiber based MOPA (Master Oscillator Power Amplification) transmitter, high peak power optical ...

Coherent Doppler Lidar Measurements of Wind Field Statistics

Boundary-Layer Meteorology, 1998
Coherent Doppler lidar measurements of wind statistics in the boundary layer are presented. The effects of the spatial averaging by the lidar pulse are removed using theoretical corrections and computer simulations. This permits unbiased estimates of velocity variance, spatial velocity structure functions, energy dissipation rate, and other point ...

Development of all-solid coherent Doppler wind lidar

Chinese Optics Letters, 2012
A 1 064-nm pulsed coherent Doppler lidar (CDL) prototype is developed to measure short range wind speed in the lower altitude troposphere layer. The CDL system adopts an injection{seeded Nd:YAG laser with the pulse duration of 80 ns, single pulse energy of 0.5 mJ, and pulse repetition rate of 200 Hz.
