Growth of a coherent precipitate from a supersaturated solution

A treatment of diffusion limited growth of a coherent spherical precipitate into supersaturated solution is presented. It is found that the growth kinetics are affected by dilatational coherency strains and by compositionally induced strains in the matrix phase.

Spatial Coherence of Monthly Precipitation in the United States

Abstract Factor analysis and an orthogonal rotation to the varimax criterion are used to identify the synoptic-scale regions of the United States over which monthly precipitation amounts show the greatest spatial coherence. The regions are consistent with previously documented cyclone trajectories.

Coherent Precipitation near Dislocations. A Theoretical Analysis

A simple theoretical model is developed for a dislocation decorated by a cylindrical precipitate, which makes it possible to derive the energy change ΔW associated with the precipitation process versus radius R of the precipitate. Semi-coherent precipitation of silicon nitride in silicon
