A wall-dependent identification method for low-speed streamwise streaks in turbulent channel flows is presented to overcome a key limitation of uniform thresholds, which tend to produce either an excess of detected structures near the wall or an apparent

Data-Driven Pulsatile Blood Flow Physics with Dynamic Mode Decomposition
Dynamic mode decomposition (DMD) is a purely data-driven and equation-free technique for reduced-order modeling of dynamical systems and fluid flow. DMD finds a best fit linear reduced-order model that represents any given spatiotemporal data.

Coherent structures in fully-developed pipe turbulence [PDF]
A turbulent mean profile for pipe flow is prescribed which closely matches experimental observations. The nature of perturbations superimposed upon this profile is then considered.

The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

On the Wake Properties of Segmented Trailing Edge Extensions
Changes in the amount and the distribution of mean and turbulent quantities in the free shear layer wake of a 2D National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) 0012 airfoil and an AR 4 NACA 0012 wing with passive segmented rigid trailing edge (TE ...

Coherent structures in localised and global pipe turbulence
The recent discovery of unstable travelling waves (TWs) in pipe flow has been hailed as a significant breakthrough with the hope that they populate the turbulent attractor.

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

What Do Large Language Models Know About Materials?
If large language models (LLMs) are to be used inside the material discovery and engineering process, they must be benchmarked for the accurateness of intrinsic material knowledge. The current work introduces 1) a reasoning process through the processing–structure–property–performance chain and 2) a tool for benchmarking knowledge of LLMs concerning ...
