Evaluation of Actuator Disk Model Relative to Actuator Surface Model for Predicting Utility-Scale Wind Turbine Wakes

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
The Actuator Disk (AD) model is widely used in Large-Eddy Simulations (LES) to simulate wind turbine wakes because of its computing efficiency. The capability of the AD model in predicting time-average quantities of wind tunnel-scale turbines has been ...

The Intermittency of Turbulence in Magneto-Hydodynamical Simulations and in the Cosmos

open access: yesAtmosphere
Turbulent dissipation is a central issue in the star and galaxy formation process. Its fundamental property of space–time intermittency, well characterised in incompressible laboratory experiments, remains elusive in cosmic turbulence.

Synchronicity from Synchronized Chaos

open access: yesEntropy, 2015
The synchronization of loosely-coupled chaotic oscillators, a phenomenon investigated intensively for the last two decades, may realize the philosophical concept of “synchronicity”—the commonplace notion that related eventsmysteriously occur at the same ...

Generation of Coherent Structures After Cosmic Inflation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We investigate the nonlinear dynamics of hybrid inflation models, which are characterized by two real scalar fields interacting quadratically. We start by solving numerically the coupled Klein-Gordon equations in static Minkowski spacetime, searching for

A Spatial Correlation Identification Model for Coherent Structure Extraction and Three-Dimensional Visualization

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Multi-scale coherent structures have been observed in ocean currents, which are induced by the interaction of shear flows with different velocities. Understanding the spatial configuration and scale characteristics of coherent structures will promote the

On variational principles for coherent vortex structures [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
Different approaches are discussed of variational principles characterizing coherent vortex structures in two-dimensional flows. Turbulent flows seem to form ordered structures in the large scales of the motion and the self-organization principle ...

Stochastic Wake Modelling Based on POD Analysis

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
In this work, large eddy simulation data is analysed to investigate a new stochastic modeling approach for the wake of a wind turbine. The data is generated by the large eddy simulation (LES) model PALM combined with an actuator disk with rotation ...

Accuracy of the Cell-Set Model on a Single Vane-Type Vortex Generator in Negligible Streamwise Pressure Gradient Flow with RANS and LES

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2020
Passive flow control devices are included in the design of wind turbine blades in order to obtain better performance and reduce loads without consuming any external energy.

CABARET scheme implementation for free shear layer modeling [PDF]

open access: yesКомпьютерные исследования и моделирование, 2017
In present paper we reexamine the properties of CABARET numerical scheme formulated for a weakly compressible fluid flow basing the results of free shear layer modeling. Kelvin-Helmholtz instability and successive generation of two-dimensional turbulence

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
