Modules of Coherent Binary Systems
Journal of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, 1965The concept of a “module”, i.e., a package of components of a system which can be removed and replaced as a whole, has been long in use in systems design and analysis. In this paper a formal definition of this concept is given and its properties are studied. Most of the results are obtained for “coherent” systems, i.e., for systems whose performance ...

Modules in Coherent Multistate Systems
IEEE Transactions on Reliability, 1983Modules in s-coherent multistate systems are presented as an extension of the binary concept of Birnbaum and Esary. A consequence of this extension is that any subset of the system components can be considered a module. Thus a measure of desirability or usefulness is important. One such measure is suggested along with modular decompositions.

EXISTENCE OF COHERENT SYSTEMS II
International Journal of Mathematics, 2008A coherent system of type (r, d, k) on a curve consists of a vector bundle of rank r and degree d together with a vector space of dimension k of the sections of this vector bundle. There is a stability condition depending on a positive real parameter α that allows to construct moduli spaces for these objects.

Minitutorial: coherent systems
Optical Fiber Communication, 1985Realization of coherent techniques in lightwave systems can yield improved receiver sensitivity, more efficient bandwidth utilization, and several other advantages. But practical system Implementation is still fraught with difficulties. This tutorial investigates the possible performance Improvements available from coherent lighwaves and the technical ...

Coherent optical FSK transmission systems
European Transactions on Telecommunications, 1991AbstractCoherent optical systems are getting much closer to commercial realizations than expected only few years ago. Front‐running candidates for simplicity and effectiveness are FSK communication systems. Several reasons stand in favour of this system: most evident are direct modulation of semiconductor lasers, generation of two‐lobe spectrum or ...
