Erosion Resistance of Cohesive Soils

Journal of the Hydraulics Division, 1981
An experimental study is described that concerned the surface erosion of an illitic silty clay (Grundite) at selected salinities and water contents; the study was designed to test the applicability of rate process and double layer theories. Both velocity increment and temperature increment tests were run in a refrigerated water tunnel.

Erosion resistance of cohesive soils

Journal of Hydraulic Research, 2008
This paper presents experimental results on surface erodibility tests performed with undisturbed and remolded samples of cohesive soils. When subjected to shear stress caused by flowing water, erosion occurs in two distinctive modes: particle erosion and mass erosion.

LIME STABILIZED MALAYSIAN COHESIVE SOILS

Malaysian Journal of Civil Engineering, 2018
This paper highlights the essential tests for assessing the suitability of lime forstabilizing soils and typical changes in soil characteristics due to modification and stabilizationprocesses with respect to mineralogical influences. The reasoning behind the mechanism of limeclay reaction on the compressive strength development of stabilized soils has ...

Uplift Resistance of Cohesive Soils

Journal of the Geotechnical Engineering Division, 1977
Effects of vertical uplift forces on circular anchors in purely cohesive soils are considered. Model tests indicate a general type of ultimate uplift failure in shallow anchors, occurring by yielding above and below the anchor due to shear and tensile stresses and cracking in the soil. Existing shallow anchor theories, although in substantial agreement

Modelling of Cohesive Soils: Soil Element Behaviors

2017
The strain space multiple mechanism model, which was originally developed for the cyclic behavior of granular materials such as sand, is adapted to idealize the stress–strain behavior of clay under monotonic and cyclic loads. Compared to the conventional elasto-plastic models of the Cam-clay type, advantages of the proposed model include (1) the ...
