What thermodynamic features characterize good and bad folders? Results from a simplified off-lattice protein model

open access: yes, 2005
The thermodynamics of the small SH3 protein domain is studied by means of a simplified model where each bead-like amino acid interacts with the others through a contact potential controlled by a 20x20 random matrix.

Chirality of Coiled Coils: Elasticity Matters

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2008
Coiled coils are important protein-protein interaction motifs with high specificity that are used to assemble macromolecular complexes. Their simple geometric organization, consisting of alpha helices wrapped around each other, confers remarkable mechanical properties.

Pathogenic Neurofibromatosis type 1 gene variants in tumors of non‐NF1 patients and role of R1276

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Somatic variants of the neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) gene occur across neoplasms without clinical manifestation of the disease NF1. We identified emerging somatic pathogenic NF1 variants and hotspots, for example, at the arginine finger 1276. Those missense variants provide fundamental information about neurofibromin's role in cancer.

Transcatheter coil occlusion of patent ductus arteriosus and follow-up results

open access: yesTürk Kardiyoloji Derneği Arşivi, 2019
Objective: Although many articles have been published about transcatheter coil occlusion, few studies have been conducted on the long-term outcomes of patent ductus arteriosus closure with a coil.

FGFR Like1 drives esophageal cancer progression via EMT, PI3K/Akt, and notch signalling: insights from clinical data and next‐generation sequencing analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Clinical analysis reveals significant dysregulation of FGFRL1 in esophageal cancer (EC) patients. RNAi‐coupled next‐generation sequencing (NGS) and in vitro study reveal FGFRL1‐mediated EC progression via EMT, PI3K/Akt, and Notch pathways. Functional assays confirm its role in tumor growth, migration, and invasion.

The new Magnetic Measurement System at the Advanced Photon Source [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
A new system for precise measurements of the field integrals and multipole components of the APS magnetic insertion devices is described. A stretched coil is used to measure magnetic field characteristics. The hardware includes a number of servomotors to

The coil-globule transition of polymers of long rigid monomers connected by flexible spacers

open access: yes, 1997
A simple model of a polymer with long rigid segments which interact via excluded volume repulsions and short ranged attractions is proposed. The coil-globule transition of this model polymer is strongly first order, the globule is crystalline and the ...

Enzymatic degradation of biopolymers in amorphous and molten states: mechanisms and applications

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This review explains how polymer morphology and thermal state shape enzymatic degradation pathways, comparing amorphous and molten biopolymer structures. By integrating structure–reactivity principles with insights from thermodynamics and enzyme engineering, it highlights mechanisms that enable efficient polymer breakdown.

The Kirkwood-Riseman Polymer Model of Polymer Dynamics is Qualitatively Correct

open access: yes, 2018
We use Brownian dynamics to show: For an isolated polymer coil, the Kirkwood-Riseman model for chain motion is qualitatively correct. The Rouse model for chain motion is qualitatively incorrect. The models are qualitatively different.
