Coil Embolization of Intracranial Aneurysms

Neurosurgery, 2003
Abstract SINCE THE INTRODUCTION of Guglielmi detachable coils more than a decade ago, the coiling technique for the treatment of intracranial aneurysms has been enhanced with technical and technological refinements. Both neurosurgeons and neuroradiologists have participated in this process.

Coil-in-coil technique for vascular embolization.

Radiology, 1986
A new technique for vascular embolization using two Gianturco steel coils is described. The authors used a "coil-in-coil" technique to embolize the arteries of 12 dogs. In this technique a large coil is introduced into the artery followed by a smaller coil, which is delivered with a special introducer into the lumen of the first coil.

Treatment of Rectal Hemorrhage by Coil Embolization

Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology, 1998
Four patients, aged 54-84 years, presenting with life-threatening rectal bleeding from the superior hemorrhoidal artery, underwent percutaneous fibered platinum coil embolization via coaxial catheters. Pre-procedure sigmoidoscopy had failed to identify the source of hemorrhage, because the rectum was filled with fresh blood.

Peripheral embolization of a stainless steel coil

American Journal of Roentgenology, 1979
The Gianturco stainless steel coil was introduced in 1975 for permanent embolic occlusion of large arteries [1 ]. Many reports attest to the successful use of the device [2, 3]. As the use of the steel coil increased, undesirable complications began to appear.

Embolization and Transcatheter Retrieval of Coils and Devices

Pediatric Cardiology, 2005
Embolizations of coils and devices are well-known complications of transcatheter procedures performed in order to occlude extracardiac or intracardiac shunts. A review of the literature and of our experience was performed to provide a succinct review of existing transcatheter retrieval techniques. After embolization of a coil or device, the appropriate

The utility of bioactive coils in the embolization of aneurysms

Neurological Research, 2014
There has been an exponential growth in the endovascular treatment of intracranial aneurysms over the past three decades and it is now the primary mode of treatment in the cerebrovascular community. Despite the proven safety and efficacy of bare platinum coils, criticism of the durability of endovascular coiling with respect to traditional open ...

Tibioperoneal trunk pseudoaneurysm coil embolization

Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, 2010
AbstractIntroduction: Pseudoaneurysms of the tibioperoneal trunk are rare and can be limb threatening. There are various treatment options to seal pseudoaneuryms both percutaneously and via open surgery. Case report: Description of the case of a large tibioperoneal trunk pseudoaneurysm that has been successfully treated by coil embolization in a ...

Steel coil embolization of hepatoportal fistulae

Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology, 1987
Two patients with portal hypertension secondary to hepatoportal fistulae, of nontraumatic origin, were treated by transcatheter embolization of feeding hepatic artery branches with Gianturco-Anderson-Wallace steel coils. Both patients demonstrated immediate improvement of the symptoms related to their portal hypertension, 1 patient needing no further ...

MicroNester Coils as an Adjunct to Endovascular Embolization

World Neurosurgery, 2010
In June 2003, detachable balloons were removed from the US market and were supplanted with coil embolization for parent artery sacrifice in difficult or nonsurgical aneurysms and other vascular pathologies. The current series examines the use of MicroNester pushable coils (Cook Medical, Bloomington, IN) as a low-cost and effective adjunct to detachable
