Complications of coil embolization: prevention and management

American Journal of Roentgenology, 1981
From 1975 to 1980, 1,200 steel coils of three different designs were used for vascular occlusion. There were eight significant complications: Two coils were lost and retrieved, one coil was lost and remains in the pulmonary artery, four coils were misplaced to undesired sites, and one coil was fragmented and displaced during surgery. The management and

Coil embolization of an aorticopulmonary fistula in a dog

Journal of Veterinary Cardiology, 2010
An 8-year-old, castrated male Basset Hound was evaluated for congestive heart failure and atrial fibrillation. Echocardiography and angiography demonstrated a left-to-right shunting aorticopulmonary fistula. Coil embolization of the fistula was initially successful in reducing the volume of blood flow through the vascular network. The dog was medically

Coil embolization of pulmonary arteriovenous malformations

Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology, 1990
Pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVMs) are uncommon lesions that can be treated by surgery or interventional radiology. Forty-four PAVMs in 11 patients were occluded by transcatheter coil embolization with only one symptomatic complication, deep venous thrombosis, attributable to the procedure. There was a significant improvement in symptoms and

Balloon-Assisted Coil Embolization

Journal of Neurosurgery, 2007
Object. The aim of this study was to assess the incidence, indications, complications, and angiography results associated with balloon-assisted coil embolization (BACE) of intracranial aneurysms and to compare these factors with those for conventional coil embolization (CE). Methods.

Mid-term Results of Coil Embolization Alone and Stent-assisted Coil Embolization for Renal Artery Aneurysms

Annals of Vascular Surgery, 2021
Coil embolization (CE) alone and stent-assisted coil embolization (SCE) are two major endovascular techniques to treat renal artery aneurysms (RAAs). This study aimed at providing safety and efficacy data of CE and SCE for RAAs.Between August 2015 and June 2019, 40 RAA patients treated with CE or SCE were included in the retrospective study.

Coil Embolization of Cerebral Aneurysms

Interventional Neuroradiology, 1998
Coil embolization was performed in 86 cerebral aneurysm patients using two types of detachable platinum coils, IDC (Interlocking detachable coil) and GDC (Guglielmi electrical detachable coil). Results of IDC and GDC were compared. The occlusion rate of the aneurysm sac was similar. Coil compaction occurred frequent and early in cases with GDC.

Embolization of Large Aneurysms with Long Wire Coils

CardioVascular and Interventional Radiology, 2002
The authors report the experience of using long coils of 2 m length in the management of large aneurysms. Knowledge of the characteristics of these coils is of value for correct placement. These coils are safe and cost-effective for excluding large aneurysms.

Unassisted Aneurysm Coil Embolization

2019
Unassisted coiling is a safe and effective treatment strategy for both ruptured and unruptured aneurysms with favorable anatomy. Those aneurysms best suited for unassisted coiling have straightforward microcatheter access, are small or medium sized, have a narrow neck, and a high dome/neck ratio.
