Tension-Stabilized Coiling of Isotropic Tape Springs

open access: yes, 2020
A tape spring can be held tightly coiled on a circular cylinder by means of a tension force applied at the tip. This paper determines the smallest value of the required tension force by means of analytical methods, experiments and detailed numerical ...

Study of umbilical coiling index and perinatal outcome

open access: yes, 2020
Background: Study was to evaluate the relationship between umbilical coiling index (UCI) and hypo-and hyper coiling of the umbilical cord and parity, neonatal weight, Ponderal Index (PI), APGAR (Appearance, pulse, grimace, activity, and respiration ...

Automated FRAP microscopy for high‐throughput analysis of protein dynamics in chromatin organization and transcription

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
RoboMic is an automated confocal microscopy pipeline for high‐throughput functional imaging in living cells. Demonstrated with fluorescence recovery after photobleaching (FRAP), it integrates AI‐driven nuclear segmentation, ROI selection, bleaching, and analysis.

Experimental Measurement of Steady and Transient Liquid Coiling with High-Speed Video and Digital Image Processing

open access: yesFluids, 2018
Liquid coiling occurs as a viscous fluid flows into a stagnant reservoir causing a localized accumulation of settling material, which coils into a stack as it accumulates.

Randomized trial of clazosentan in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage undergoing endovascular coiling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Clazosentan, an endothelin receptor antagonist, has been shown to reduce vasospasm after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). CONSCIOUS-3 assessed whether clazosentan reduced vasospasm-related morbidity and all-cause mortality postaSAH secured by ...

Adjunctive Coiling in Flow Diverter Treatment Does Not Prevent Delayed Rupture: A Nationwide Survey [PDF]

open access: yesNeurointervention
Purpose Delayed rupture (DR) can occur even after successful deployment of flow diverters (FDs). Although coiling is often added to reduce the risk of rupture in high-risk intracranial aneurysms, its effectiveness remains unproven.

C2α‐carbanion‐protonating glutamate discloses tradeoffs between substrate accommodation and reaction rate in actinobacterial 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Enzymes of the 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase group catalyze the condensation of formyl‐CoA with aldehydes or ketones. Thus, by structural adaptation of active sites, practically any pharmaceutically and industrially important 2‐hydroxyacid could be biotechnologically synthesized. Combining crystal structure analysis, active site mutations and kinetic assays,

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...
