Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Impact of aneurysm sac size on the effectiveness of endovascular coiling in patient-specific middle cerebral artery aneurysms: a computational study

open access: yesScientific Reports
This study investigates the hemodynamic efficiency of endovascular coiling in the treatment of patient-specific middle cerebral artery (MCA) aneurysms using computational models of both original and scaled-down geometries.

Abstract 11: Impact of Umbilical Coiling Index on Perinatal Outcomes

open access: yesPreventive Medicine: Research & Reviews
Background: The umbilical coiling index (UCI), defined as the ratio of vascular coils to cord length, has been proposed as an indicator of fetal well-being.

Influence of parent vessel feature on the risk of internal carotid artery aneurysm rupture via computational method

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
In this study, the role of sac section area and parent vessel diameter on the hemodynamic feature of the blood flow in selected internal carotid artery (ICA) aneurysms is comprehensively investigated.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Fertimetro, a Principle and Device to Measure Soil Nutrient Availability for Plants by Microbial Degradation Rates on Differently-Spiked Buried Threads [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
A novel patented method (PCT/IB2012/001157: Squartini, Concheri, Tiozzo, University of Padova) and the corresponding application devices, suitable to measure soil fertility, are presented. The availability or deficiency of specific nutrients for crops is

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.

MRI Vessel Wall Imaging and Treatment of an Aneurysm at the Atlanto-Axial Segment of an Aberrant Vertebral Artery [PDF]

open access: yesNeurointervention, 2018
We report a case of unique location of an aneurysm at the atlanto-axial extradural segment of a unilateral aberrant vertebral artery. The MRI vessel wall imaging findings and possible mechanism of aneurysm formation were discussed.

Characterization of avirulent mutant Legionella pneumophila that survive but do not multiply within human monocytes. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
Legionella pneumophila, the causative agent of Legionnaires' disease, is a Gram-negative bacterium and a facultative intracellular parasite that multiplies in human monocytes and alveolar macrophages. In this paper, mutants of L.
