Electromagnetic levitation coil fabrication technique for MSFC containerless processing facilities [PDF]

open access: yes
A technique is described for more reproducible fabrication of electromagnetic levitation coils. A split mandrel was developed upon which the coil is wound. After fabrication the mandrel can be disassembled to remove it from the coil.

Equilibria and Instabilities of a Slinky: Discrete Model

open access: yes, 2014
The Slinky is a well-known example of a highly flexible helical spring, exhibiting large, geometrically nonlinear deformations from minimal applied forces.

Chirality of Coiled Coils: Elasticity Matters

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2008
Coiled coils are important protein-protein interaction motifs with high specificity that are used to assemble macromolecular complexes. Their simple geometric organization, consisting of alpha helices wrapped around each other, confers remarkable mechanical properties.

Automatic, fast and robust characterization of noise distributions for diffusion MRI

open access: yes, 2018
Knowledge of the noise distribution in magnitude diffusion MRI images is the centerpiece to quantify uncertainties arising from the acquisition process. The use of parallel imaging methods, the number of receiver coils and imaging filters applied by the ...

Formulas establish audio range inductance in beryllium coils [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
Mathematical modeling is used to determine the effects of resistance and capacitance upon the audio-inductance range of beryllium hammer coils and beryllium nylon-potted ...

The Kirkwood-Riseman Polymer Model of Polymer Dynamics is Qualitatively Correct

open access: yes, 2018
We use Brownian dynamics to show: For an isolated polymer coil, the Kirkwood-Riseman model for chain motion is qualitatively correct. The Rouse model for chain motion is qualitatively incorrect. The models are qualitatively different.
