Cold-electron bolometer arrays
JETP Letters, 2009Superconductor bolometers such as transition edge sensors, hotelectron bolometers, bolometers on the kinetic inductance of a superconductor, and cold electron bolometers are the most sensitive receivers for the submillimeter band. The radiation power in such bolometers is absorbed in an absorber made of a thin normalmetal film connected to ...

Sensitivity and Noise of Cold-Electron Bolometer Arrays
Radiophysics and Quantum Electronics, 2017We perform experimental and theoretical studies of the series-parallel arrays of the cold-electron bolometers integrated into a cross-slot antenna and composed with an immersion silicon lens. This work is aimed at determining the efficiency of radiation absorption by bolometers, their volt-watt sensitivity, and equivalent noise power.

Ultrawideband Metamaterial-Based Array of Cold-Electron Bolometers
2019 Radiation and Scattering of Electromagnetic Waves (RSEMW), 2019In this report we present the concept of a planar array of cold-electron bolometers, which may potentially absorb 50 to 80 percent of the incident terahertz power with linear polarization in the frequency range 50-800 GHz. The array consists of a periodically arranged unit cells each containing a ring with the four bolometers.

Wideband Double-Polarized Array of Cold-Electron Bolometers for OLIMPO Balloon Telescope
IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 2021In this article, we propose a novel type of a wideband 2-D array of cold-electron bolometers (CEBs) sensitive to both polarizations of the incoming optical signal. This array was developed for osservatorio per il lontano infrarosso e le microonde su pallone orientabile (OLIMPO) balloon telescope with a requirement on bandwidth more than 10 ...

Ultimate cold-electron bolometer for THz applications
Infrared and Millimeter Waves, Conference Digest of the 2004 Joint 29th International Conference on 2004 and 12th International Conference on Terahertz Electronics, 2004., 2006Ultimate cold electron bolometer with strong electrothermal feedback by direct electron cooling of the absorber has been proposed. This concept is proposed to overcome the unavoidable contradiction of supersensitive detectors between supersensitivity and supersaturation due to background power load.

Cold-electron bolometer with electronic microrefrigeration and general noise analysis
SPIE Proceedings, 1998A novel concept of the hot-electron bolometer using a microrefrigeration by SIN tunnel junctions for direct cooling the electrons of the absorber has been proposed. We have analyzed the most attractive case of cooling starting from 300 mK that can be achieved in a simple cryostat with 3He pumping.

Observation of Photon Noise by a Parallel-Series Array of Cold-Electron Bolometers
2017 16th International Superconductive Electronics Conference (ISEC), 2017The quasioptical qualification of cold-electron bolometers (CEB) operated in the cross-slot antenna at 350GHz, are presented. The photon noise observation by a parallel/series array of CEBs is demonstrated for power loads of the order of 1 pW. The experimental results have been fitted to theoretical model with two heat-balance equations for the ...

Absorption and cross-talk in a multipixel receiving system with cold electron bolometers
Superconductor Science and Technology, 2019Abstract In the article we compare two types of receiving pixels, based on cold electron bolometers, fabricated with different technology. Both pixels are designed for the 350 GHz frequency channel of the OLIMPO project.

Multifrequency Seashell Slot Antenna With Cold-Electron Bolometers for Cosmology Space Missions
IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity, 2016A novel type of the “seashell” multichroic polarized antenna is proposed for cosmology space missions. The polarized slot antennas are arranged in the compact form of a seashell with individual slots for each frequency and each polarization. Such an arrangement gives a unique opportunity for independent adjusting individual parameters of slots with ...

Normal Metal Cold-Electron Bolometer: Response, Noise, and Electron Cooling
2004In the last decade superconducting bolometers became the most sensitive radiation detectors of Sub-mm, Infrared, and Optical radiation with an estimated ultimate sensitivity down to 10−20 W/Hz1/2. At present the most developed superconducting bolometer is a transition-edge sensor (TES).
