Activation of Complement by Cold Agglutinins
Infusionstherapie und Transfusionsmedizin / Infusion Therapy and Transfusion Medicine, 2009Objective: To review recent reports on the interaction of cold agglutinins with the complement system and its relevance to cold agglutinin disease. Data Sources: Review articles and original papers have been selected for this contribution. Selection Criteria: The report focuses on experimental data available from in vitro studies as well as clinical ...

A Cold Agglutinin of the IgA Class
The Journal of Immunology, 1966Summary A patient with a reticulum cell sarcoma and cold agglutinin of the IgA type is reported. The cold agglutinin had a sedimentation rate of 10.5S (9.5–11.5S), indicating that it is probably a dimer of the 7-8S IgA unit. The cold agglutinin was mercaptoethanol sensitive and failed to fix complement.

Complement Activation by Cold Agglutinins
Vox Sanguinis, 1992AbstractPurified monoclonal human IgM cold agglutinins (CA) of different specificities (anti‐I, anti‐i, anti‐Pr) were investigated for their complement‐activating capacity in a homologous system. Incubation of human RBC with excess of IgM CA in the cold, and subsequently with human serum at 37°C, resulted in striking differences in hemolysis. Hemolysis

Complement, cold agglutinins, and therapy
Blood, 2014In this issue of Blood, Shi and coworkers show that TNT003, a mouse monoclonal antibody targeting complement protein C1s, prevents induction of in vitro hemolysis by cold agglutinins (CA). If successfully transferred into the clinical setting by further studies, these findings may result in a novel therapeutic principle for a frequently difficult ...

Lambda Chains in Cold Agglutinins
Science, 1967Type L light chains have been found in the cold agglutinins in the serums of three patients with chronic hemolytic anemia. Although two of these cold agglutinins are unusual in that they do not have specificity to I or i red-cell antigens (one of these has, in addition, cryoglobulin property), the third is a cold agglutinin of I specificity. Previously

Cold Agglutinin Disease and Cryoglobulinemia
Clinical Lymphoma, 2005Cold agglutinin disease is a form of direct, extravascular, antiglobulin-positive hemolysis. In vivo, immunoglobulin (Ig) M fixes complement molecules to the red cell membrane. Successive passages through the mononuclear phagocyte system result in loss of red cell membrane.

Nature of Cold Agglutinin Linkage
Nature, 1953IF sera containing auto-agglutinins (‘non-specific cold agglutinins’) are repeatedly absorbed in the cold with O cells, one of three results may be obtained: (1) activity against A and B cells may cease; this is the only result reported by numerous earlier workers; (2) activity against A and B cells may persist to a greater or lesser extent; subsequent
