Adiabatic theory for anisotropic cold molecule collisions
Journal of Chemical Physics, 2015We developed an adiabatic theory for cold anisotropic collisions between slow atoms and cold molecules. It enables us to investigate the importance of the couplings between the projection states of the rotational motion of the atom about the molecular axis of the diatom. We tested our theory using the recent results from the Penning ionization reaction

Cold collisions of hot molecules
Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics, 2023Stimulated emission pumping is combined with imaging to study inelastic collisions of highly vibrationally excited NO down to 2 K. Results are compared to quantum close-coupling calculations on high-level potential energy surfaces.

Cold Collisions of Electrons with Molecules
Few-Body Systems, 2002Results are presented of high-resolution scattering experiments involving electron collisions with CO2 and CS2, between a few meV and 200 meV impact energy. Virtual state scattering is shown to dominate the low-energy behaviour for both species. The most striking features of the scattering spectrum for CS2 are, however, giant resonances with cross ...

Optical shielding of cold collisions
Physical Review A, 1995Inelastic collision rates between two very cold ground-state atoms can be strongly decreased by using an optical shielding laser to repel the colliding atoms at very large internuclear separation so that they never get close to each other. This can be achieved by using a sufficiently intense laser to excite a repulsive state of the quasimolecule formed

Cold collisions in an atomic beam
Physical Review A, 1990We report a measurement of the rate constant for associative ionization (AI) between excited Na(3{ital p}) atoms colliding within a single beam at a velocity of 11.9 msec{sup {minus}1}, corresponding to a temperature of 65 mK. The collisions take place in a narrow velocity class of excited atoms produced by crossing the collimated Na beam with a ...

The Quantum World of Cold Electron Collisions
Accounts of Chemical Research, 2001Collisions between electrons and molecules at thermal energy play a key role in the chemistry and physics of plasmas, ranging from those in space to the chemically active plasmas used for thin film and microcircuit fabrication. However, until recently, data for electron-molecule interactions below a few hundred millielectronvolts impact energy (a few ...

AIP Conference Proceedings, 1994
The recent developments in laser cooling, together with a preceding decade of work on cryogenically cooled atomic hydrogen, have opened possibilities for a large variety of experiments in which collisions between very slow atoms play an important role. Examples of such experiments are reviewed with an emphasis on theoretical interpretation.

Experiments in cold and ultracold collisions
AIP Conference Proceedings, 1989Two‐particle and light‐field interactions characterize‐collision physics in the cold and ultracold kinetic energy regimes. Cross sections increasing by orders of magnitude and acute senstivity to light field intensity and polarization distinguish this new domain from conventional thermal environments.
