Lidar network observation of dust layer evolution over the Gobi Desert in MAY 2013
A lidar network captured the evolution of a dust layer in the Gobi Desert on 22–23 May 2013. The lidar network consists of a ceilometer and two AD-Net lidars in Mongolia. The dust layer was generated by a strong wind due to a cold front and elevated over

Systematic assessment of the diabatic processes that modify low-level potential vorticity in extratropical cyclones [PDF]
Diabatic processes significantly affect the development and structure of extratropical cyclones. Previous studies quantified the dynamical relevance of selected diabatic processes by studying their influence on potential vorticity (PV) in individual ...

Cold Fronts in Cold Dark Matter Clusters
Recently, high-resolution Chandra observations revealed the existence of very sharp features in the X-ray surface brightness and temperature maps of several clusters. These features, called cold fronts, are characterized by an increase in surface brightness by a factor 2 over 10-50 kpc accompanied by a drop in temperature of a similar magnitude.

Cold fronts are meteorological phenomena that impact the northern Gulf of Mexico, mostly between the fall and spring seasons. On average, they pass the region every 3–7 days, with a duration ranging between 24 and 74 h.

While the vertical structure of cold fronts has been studied using various methods, previous research has shown that traditional methods of observing meteorological phenomena (such as pencil-beam radars in PPI/volumetric mode) are not well-suited for ...

Using fully kinetic 2.5 dimensional particle-in-cell simulations of anti-parallel symmetric magnetic reconnection, we investigate how initially cold ions are captured by the reconnection process, and how they evolve and behave in the exhaust.

Analysis of a High-Impact Cold Surge for Aviation over the Low Latitude Plateau
On February 19-22, 2022, Yunnan province, located on the low latitude plateau, experienced a large-scale cooling, rainfall and snow weather process, leading to the cancellation, delay, and return of multiple flights at eight airports.Focusing on this ...

Sporadi-E layer and metereological activity
Obscrvations of Es laycr performed at the ionospheric observatory of Rome from 1982 to 1989 have been used to investigate a possible correlation with cold front passages. Such a correlation may exist because of the AGW excited by tropospheric activity at
