Simulating the Effects of Urban Parameterizations on the Passage of a Cold Front During a Pollution Episode in Megacity Shanghai

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2019
Urbanization significantly influences meteorological conditions and air quality. Statistically, air pollution in the megacity of Shanghai usually occurs with cold weather fronts.

Digitizing the Filtration Interface: A Smart, Modular Janus Wood Platform for Self‐Reporting Oil/Water Remediation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work developed a smart Janus wood membrane integrating asymmetric wettability with built‐in electrical sensing for oil‐water separation. The membrane achieved > 99.5% separation efficiency and high flux by leveraging wood's natural anisotropic pore structure.

Mapping the Nearest Ancient Sloshing Cold Front in the Sky with XMM-_Newton_

open access: yesThe Open Journal of Astrophysics
The Virgo Cluster is the nearest cool core cluster that features two well-studied sloshing cold fronts at radii of r ≈ 30 kpc and r ≈ 90 kpc, respectively.

Numerical simulation of mesoscale structures in the northern Alpine foreland during front passages: A dry cold front with pre-frontal foehn

open access: yesMeteorologische Zeitschrift, 1992
A three-dimensional numerical model is used to simulate the passage of a cold front with pre-frontal foehn over the northern Alpine foreland. A passive nesting scheme allows a detailed inspection of mesoscale patterns in southern Bavaria. The results are

Interaction of a cold front with a sea-breeze front Observations [PDF]

open access: yesTellus A: Dynamic Meteorology and Oceanography, 1995
On 9 May 1989, during the field experiment FRONTEX, a synoptic-scale cold front was observed which moved from the North Sea to Northern Germany and interacted with a sea-breeze front. The modification of the cold front is documented by satellite images and measurements over the sea, at the coast and further inland.

Spatially Decoupling Heating and Evaporation for Convection‐Enhanced 3D Solar Evaporation With Continuous Salt Harvesting

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An architecture‐enabled bottom‐heated 3D solar convective evaporator spatially decouples photothermal heating from evaporation, triggering natural convection that intensifies sidewall vapour removal and heat transfer. The system achieves significantly enhanced evaporation rates over 2D and conventional 3D designs while confining salt precipitation to ...

The characterization of the onset of the rainy season in Paraíba do Sul Valley

open access: yesRevista Ambiente & Água, 2013
As precipitation is the most important climatic element for agricultural productivity and urban planning, the study of its seasonal characteristics and its temporal-spatial variability are fundamental to the understanding and prevention of risks in human

Shape Memory Microneedle to Prevent Risks of Reproductive Hormone Therapy by Switching Sustained to Burst Release Under a Single Transdermal Insertion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A shape‐memory microneedle system enables reproductive hormone therapy through a single transdermal insertion. The X‐shaped device sustains follicle‐stimulating hormone release for three days, and mild heating restores the O shape to trigger burst human chorionic gonadotropin release.

Microscopic Origin of Temperature‐Dependent Anisotropic Heat Transport in Ultrawide‐Bandgap Rutile GeO2

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Rutile GeO2${\rm GeO}_{2}$ exhibits orientation‐dependent heat transport with temperature‐dependent anisotropy, showing higher cross‐plane thermal conductivity along [001] than along the equivalent in‐plane [100] and [010] directions. Temperature‐dependent TDTR measurements and first‐principles phonon calculations identify the microscopic phonon ...
