Effect of gas pressure on Al coatings by cold gas dynamic spray

Materials Letters, 2008
Al coatings by cold gas dynamic spray (CGDS, or Cold Spray) technique with pressure condition were investigated. The relatively soft Al has been coated at low gas pressure condition (0.7 MPa) with severe plastic deformation. However, the Al particles in the coatings coated at the higher pressure conditions (1.5 MPa, 2.5 MPa) were not severely deformed.

Cold Gas Dynamic Spray – Characterization of Polymeric Deposition

open access: yes, 2016
When a solid, ductile particle impacts a substrate at sufficient velocity, the resulting heat, pressure, and plastic deformation can produce bonding at the interface. The use of a supersonic gas flow to accelerate such particles is known as Cold Spray deposition.

Novel Al-based metallic glass coatings by Cold Gas Spray

open access: yesMaterials and Design, 2016
Al-based metallic glass powder was deposited by high pressure Cold Gas Spray technology onto Aluminum- 7075-T6 alloy. Cold Gas Spray parameters such as stand-off distance, gas pressure and gas temperature were varied in order to investigate the optimal ...

Bonding mechanism in cold gas spraying

Acta Materialia, 2003
Cold gas spraying is a relatively new coating process by which coatings can be produced without significant heating of the sprayed powder. In contrast to the well-known thermal spray processes such as flame, arc, and plasma spraying, in cold spraying there is no melting of particles prior to impact on the substrate.

Development of Cold Gas Sprayed Coatings

International Thermal Spray Conference, 2003
Abstract By cold spraying, coatings are produced without significant heating of the spray powder and the substrate material. The powder particles are accelerated in a preheated gas stream to velocities of more than 500 m/s without melting and form a dense and tightly bonded coating.

How Cold is Cold Spray? An Experimental Study of the Heat Transfer to the Substrate in Cold Gas Dynamic Spraying

International Thermal Spray Conference, 2008
Abstract Time-resolved thermographic measurements were performed by a high speed infrared camera on a substrate surface during cold gas dynamic spraying without powder particles. Experiments were carried out on three commercial cold spray systems (Centerline SST, CGT Kinetiks 3000 and Inovati KM-CDS 2.2) spanning a wide range of gas ...

Development of multimaterial coatings by cold spray and gas detonation spraying

Surface and Coatings Technology, 2010
Abstract The basic objective is the development of multifunctional multimaterial protective coatings using cold spraying (CS) and computer controlled detonation spraying (CCDS). As far as CS is concerned, the separate injection of each powder into different zones of the carrier gas stream is applied.

Deposition of brass coating by a method of cold gas-dynamic spraying

Physics and Chemistry of Materials Treatment, 2020
The structure and properties of a coating based on a mechanical mixture of Cu and Zn particles deposited on a steel substrate by gas-dynamic spraying are studied. X-ray diffraction and microspectral analysis show a significant effect of the deposition temperature on the content of Cu and Zn in the coating. When the deposition temperature increases from

Localisation of deformation in cold gas dynamic spraying

Surface Engineering, 2016
One of the main specific features of the cold spray process is localisation during particle impact deformation. The resultant adiabatic shear instability is the phenomenon that is known to play a major role in the particle/substrate and particle/particle bonding and coating structure formation during the cold spray process.

A Review of the Cold Gas Dynamic Spraying Process

2021
In this modern era, use of coatings on engineering materials has become highly inevitable. One such emerging coating method is the cold gas dynamic spraying. It is a solid-state process where deposition on to the surface of the material is done at high pressure and velocity. Adhesion of the powder to the substrate is possible because of the high amount
