Association between moderately cold temperature and mortality in China

Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2020
Ambient air temperature is a key factor affecting human health. Adverse effects of extreme weather on mortality have been well explored and expounded in numerous epidemiological studies. The relationship between moderate temperature and mortality is, however, underexplored.

Prospects for Solid Ammonia as a Cold Moderator

Journal of Neutron Research, 2003
We explore what is known about solid ammonia as a moderator, suggest and demonstrate a method for deriving from measurements on normal ammonia results that apply to the separated isotopic form, and survey the needs for further research.

Hypohydration effects on thermoregulation during moderate exercise in the cold

European Journal of Applied Physiology, 2004
Hyperosmotic hypovolemia impairs vasoconstriction during sedentary cold exposure. The purpose of this study was to determine whether hypohydration alters thermoregulation and cardiovascular responses to exercise in cold air. On four occasions, eight males [35.1 (2.7) years, 175.5 (3.1) cm, 73.3 (2.6) kg, 57.2 (2.6) ml kg(-1) min(-1) maximal oxygen ...

Variations in mental performance under moderate cold stress

International Journal of Biometeorology, 1987
Effects of moderate cold stress on reasoning ability, associative learning and critical flicker frequncy of Indian subjects were studied by exposing them to 25‡C,. 20‡C, 15‡C and 10‡C for three hours. A second set of experiments was also conducted to confirm the conclusions of the first by using the same temperatures and duration of exposure.

Considerations for a cold moderator on a pulsed neutron source

Annals of Nuclear Energy, 1979
Abstract The purpose of a cooled moderator on a pulsed neutron source may be to extend to longer wavelengths the neutron slowing down range with its narrow pulse widths, or to enhance the long wavelength intensity. The intensity and pulse length as a function of wavelength are determined by the rate of energy exchange, and by leakage and capture of ...

Effects of moderate cold on performance of psychomotor and cognitive tasks

Ergonomics, 1987
Two experiments were performed to study the effects of exposure to moderate cold ( + 5°C) on psychomotor and cognitive tasks requiring sustained attention.

Thermal Neutron Cross Sections of Cold-Moderators

18th International Conference on Nuclear Engineering: Volume 2, 2010
This paper reviews some moderators for cold neutron source. As a good cold moderator, solid methane was studied and evaluated using the new synthetic frequency spectrum theory (SFS). Due to its high proton density and easy handling, mesitylene (not included in ENDF/B) has also been considered as a very good moderator for cold neutron source. Evaluation

Biometrological Assessment of Skin Protectors against Moderate Cold Threat

Exogenous Dermatology, 2002
Background: Cold injuries represent a serious problem in winter sport practice and other outdoor activities. Some protection is expected to be achieved by specific topical preparations aiming at decreasing heat loss by water evaporation from the skin.

Metabolic and thermal response to a moderate cold exposure in nomadic Lapps

Journal of Applied Physiology, 1960
A field investigation was conducted at Kautokeino in Finnmark to study the tolerance of the Lapps to cold. Their metabolism and skin and rectal temperatures were determined while they rested and slept naked for a night in a single-blanket sleeping-bag, exposed to a moderate cold stress.
