Quantification of the cold air pool in Kevo valley, Finnish Lapland

open access: yes, 2009
The ponding of cold air at low elevations is a major feature of the high-latitude climates of the Arctic, wherever low solar angles combine with incised topography.

ERK‐Mediated Phosphorylation of YAP Defines a Noncanonical FGF Signaling Mechanism in Stem Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
With a powerful combination of in vivo, ex vivo, and in vitro models, the authors highlight a novel FGF‐ERK signaling regulation of YAP at the S128 site in neural crest‐derived stem cells. This study opens exciting new directions in stem cell biology and craniofacial biology, paving the way for potential innovations in the treatment of craniofacial ...

Comparison of Cold Pool Characteristics of Two Distinct Gust Fronts over Bohai Sea Bay in China

open access: yesAtmosphere
Previous studies have demonstrated that cold pools play a pivotal role in the initiation and organization of convection, yet their influence on the evolution of gust fronts (GFs) remains inadequately understood. A destructive wind event associated with a

Role of Eastern Ghats Orography and Cold Pool in an Extreme Rainfall Event over Chennai on 1 December 2015

open access: yes, 2018
Chennai and its surrounding region received extreme rainfall on 1 December 2015. A rain gauge in the city recorded 494 mm of rainfall within a span of 24 h—at least a 100-yr event.

Consensus Formation and Change are Enhanced by Neutrality

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Neutral agents are shown to enhance both the formation and overturning of consensus in collective decision‐making. A general mathematical model and experiments with locusts and humans reveal that neutrality enables robust consensus via simple interactions and accelerates consensus change by reducing effective population size.

Capturing Subgrid Cold Pool Dynamics With U‐Net: Insights From Large‐Eddy Simulation for Storm‐Resolving Modeling

open access: yesAtmospheric Science Letters
This study explores the potential of deep learning as a subgrid parameterization for global storm‐resolving models (GSRMs) by employing Large‐Eddy Simulation (LES) to generate high‐resolution cold pools under various convective structures.

Stratification and mixing effects in an LMFBR cold pool following loss of heat sink transients [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
Cold pool stratification, transient thermal shock, hot plume dilution and global cold pool heat up following two loss of heat sink events were determined via three-dimensional analysis.

GATA4‐Driven Transcription of HtrA1 Promotes Cellular Senescence in Ménière's Disease and Age‐Related Audio‐Vestibular Dysfunction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies the HDAC6/GATA4/HtrA1 axis as a critical driver of cellular senescence in the inner ear. GATA4 nuclear translocation, facilitated by HDAC6 downregulation, transcriptionally activates HtrA1, promoting hair cell senescence, SASP, and audio‐vestibular dysfunction in models of Ménière's disease and age‐related audio‐vestibular ...

Natural Products Inspired Scaffold Diversification Leads to Unnatural Molecular Warhead and Covalent Strategy to Modulating Protein Function through Electrophilic Bromine Transfer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We report a new thiolate‐reactive α,α‐gem‐dibromo lactam warhead that activates transcription factor Nrf2 and demonstrates anti‐inflammatory activities, which have implications in cancer, neurodegeneration, and cardiovascular diseases. RNA‐seq illuminated detailed transcriptional profiles, and chemical reactions with cysteine‐containing compounds ...
