Depression of sublingual temperature by cold saliva. [PDF]

open access: yesBMJ, 1975
Sublingual and oesophageal temperatures were compared at various air temperatures in 16 subjects. In warm air (25-44 degrees C) sublingual temperatures stabilized within plus or minus 0-45 degrees C of oesophageal temperatures, but in air at room temperature (18-24 degrees C) they were sometimes as much as 1-1 degrees C below and in cold air (5-10 ...

Geographic variation in walking activity in the red flour beetle Tribolium castaneum

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
This study examined whether there is geographic variation in field populations, focusing on the moving activity in the red flour beetle Tribolium castaneum. Results showed significant differences in moving activity among field populations but no correlation with latitude or meteorological factors.

Association Between Before-bedtime Passive Body Heating and Nocturia During the Cold Season Among Older Adults

open access: yesJournal of Epidemiology, 2023
Background: Cold exposure induces lower urinary tract symptoms, including nocturia. Cold-induced detrusor overactivity can be alleviated by increasing skin temperature in rats.

Simulated X-ray Cluster Temperature Maps [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Temperature maps are presented of the 9 largest clusters in the mock catalogues of Muanwong et al. for both the Preheating and Radiative models. The maps show that clusters are not smooth, featureless systems, but contain a variety of substructure which ...

The Effect of Cold Temperature on Increased Exacerbation of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease: A Nationwide Study

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Background Seasonal variations in the acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) have been reported. However, the influence of air temperature and other meteorological factors on COPD exacerbation remains unclear. Methods National

Modifications in FLAP's second cytosolic loop influence 5‐LOX interaction, inhibitor binding, and leukotriene formation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The enzyme 5‐lipoxygenase (5‐LOX) catalyzes the first step in the biosynthesis of leukotrienes (LTs) involved in inflammatory pathophysiology. After cellular stimulation, 5‐LOX translocates to the nucleus, interacting with the 5‐LOX‐activating protein (FLAP) to form LTA4 from arachidonic acid (AA).

Extremely cold and hot temperatures increase the risk of ischaemic heart disease mortality: epidemiological evidence from China.

open access: yes, 2012
OBJECTIVE: To examine the effects of extremely cold and hot temperatures on ischaemic heart disease (IHD) mortality in five cities (Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Wuhan and Guangzhou) in China; and to examine the time relationships between cold and hot ...

Modeling and predicting the shape of the far-infrared to submillimeter emission in ultra-compact HII regions and cold clumps [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Dust properties are very likely affected by the environment in which dust grains evolve. For instance, some analyses of cold clumps (7 K- 17 K) indicate that the aggregation process is favored in dense environments.

Relationship between cold temperature and cardiovascular mortality, with assessment of effect modification by individual characteristics: Ibaraki Prefectural Health Study.

open access: yesCirculation Journal, 2013
BACKGROUND Cold temperature has been reported to contribute to cardiovascular mortality, but it is not clear which people are more susceptible to cold temperature.
