Gene action for cold tolerance in chickpea [PDF]

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Genetics, 1991
Six crosses were investigated using combining ability and generation mean analyses for reaction to cold tolerance in chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.). The combining ability variances revealed the significance of both additive and nonadditive gene effects, with preponderance of additive gene effects.

Cold Tolerance Encoded in One SNP [PDF]

open access: yesCell, 2015
Cold tolerance fundamentally affects world crop harvest. Ma et al. now identify a single-nucleotide polymorphism in a gene called COLD1 that confers cold tolerance in japonica rice. This study reveals important insights into agronomical traits that are essential for human nutrition.

Advances in understanding Lepidoptera cold tolerance

open access: yesJournal of Thermal Biology
Ambient thermal conditions mediate insect growth, development, reproduction, survival, and distribution. With increasingly frequent and severe cold spells, it is critical to determine low-temperature performance and cold tolerances of ecologically and economically essential insect groups to predict their responses to global environmental change.

Identification of Genes Related to Cold Tolerance and a Functional Allele That Confers Cold Tolerance [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 2018
Cold stress is a major factor limiting rice (Oryza sativa) production worldwide, especially at the seedling and booting stages. The identification of genes associated with cold tolerance (CT) in rice is important for sustainable food production. Here, we report the results of a genome-wide association study to identify the genetic loci associated with ...

Heat tolerance is more variable than cold tolerance across species of Iberian lizards after controlling for intraspecific variation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The widespread observation that heat tolerance is less variable than cold tolerance ('cold-tolerance asymmetry') leads to the prediction that species exposed to temperatures near their thermal maxima should have reduced evolutionary potential for ...

Deciphering the myth of cold tolerance in soybean: An overview of molecular breeding applications

open access: yesNotulae Botanicae Horti Agrobotanici Cluj-Napoca, 2023
The soybean is a source of several dietary components, including milk, protein, and oil. Cold stress has significantly curtailed soybean growth and yield in large areas and caused a high risk to global food security.

Improved cold tolerance in switchgrass by a novel CCCH-type zinc finger transcription factor gene, PvC3H72, associated with ICE1–CBF–COR regulon and ABA-responsive genes

open access: yesBiotechnology for Biofuels, 2019
Background Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum) is a warm-season perennial grass. Improving its cold tolerance is important for its sustainable production in cooler regions.

WRKY41/WRKY46-miR396b-5p-TPR module mediates abscisic acid-induced cold tolerance of grafted cucumber seedlings

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2022
Grafting is one of the key agronomic measures to enhance the tolerance to environmental stresses in horticultural plants, but the specific molecular regulation mechanism in this tolerance largely remains unclear. Here, we found that cucumber grafted onto

Effects of chronic cold treatment on root elongation and gene expression in "Arabidopsis thaliana" [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Low temperature is a major limitation of plant growth. Cold adaptation is important for the survival and distribution of plant species at high elevations and high latitudes.
