Eucalyptus shows unexpected cold tolerance
Although some species of eucalyptus trees in an experimental plantation were damaged in a 1989 cold snap, several species and clones survived temperatures lower than previously thought to be tolerated.

TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.

BCG vaccination potentiates oxidative phosphorylation in neonatal myeloid‐derived suppressor cells
BCG vaccination enhances oxidative phosphorylation in neonatal MDSCs, impairing their immunosuppressive function. It upregulates electron transport chain genes and mitochondrial activity, increasing ATP and oxygen consumption. Pharmacological OXPHOS inhibition partially restores suppressive capacity, confirming causality.

The role of SENSITIVE TO FREEZING6 in plant tolerance to stress [PDF]
The current rate of climate change predicts that plants will become subject to increasing extremes of enviro nmental stress. Rapid population increases in developing countries also demand higher yield from crop production, often from sub-optimal ...

Chronobiology of Cancer: How Aging Fuels Oncogenesis at the Molecular Level
This graphical abstract illustrates the key biological pathways linking aging with cancer development and progression. In the upper left, cumulative exposure to ultraviolet radiation, toxins, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) causes DNA damage and genomic instability, whereas age‐related decline in repair mechanisms, such as ATM/ATR, BER, and NER ...

Over-expression of BcFLC1 from non-heading Chinese cabbage enhances cold tolerance in Arabidopsis
A gene (named BcFLC1) homologous to the AtFLC gene, which encodes a floral repressor, was isolated from the nonheading Chinese cabbage (Brassica campestris L. ssp. chinensis) cv. NJ074. The gene showed high similarity to AtFLC.

XvGoIS, a galactinol synthase is transcriptionally upregulated under water deficit : the role of raffinosaccharides in abiotic stress tolerance in the resurrection plant Xerophyta viscosa (Baker) [PDF]
Includes bibliographical references (leaves 84-102).As part of an ongoing project to genetically manipulate maize for increased abiotic stress tolerance, we have isolated and identified a number of genes from the resurrection plant Xerophyta viscosa ...

In a genome-wide association study, we identified a rice UDP-glycosyltransferase gene, OsUGT706D2, whose transcription was activated in response to cold and submergence stress and to exogenous abscisic acid (ABA).
