The strong enhancer element in the immediate early region of the human cytomegalovirus genome [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
The human cytomegalovirus (HCMV), a member of the herpesvirus group, was found to possess a strong transcription enhancer in the immediate early gene region. Co-transfection of enhancerless SV40 DNA with randomly fragmented HCMV DNA yielded two SV40-

Defining the SOS Operon of Coliphage 186

open access: yesVirology, 1996
We have sequenced the LexA-controlled operon of coliphage 186 that carries the tum gene, whose product is necessary for UV induction of the 186 prophage. The operon consists of orf95 and orf97, and we have identified orf95 as the tum gene. The major translation products from orf95 result from internal initiations and modulate Tum activity.

Faecal bacteria and coliphages in run-off from dairy farms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Although the indicator numbers were mainly quite low, there was a severe risk of transfer of pathogens to the environment, especially when household wastewater or surface run-off water from outdoor yards was poorly purified and allowed to flow into ...
