Bacteriophage endolysins have limited use against Gram‐negative bacteria for the envelop. To enhance the extracellular activity of endolysin and facilitate its crossing through the outer membrane of Gram‐negative bacteria, researchers have adopted physical, chemical, and molecular strategies for endolysin modification, to promote the application of ...

Experimental selection reveals a trade-off between fecundity and lifespan in the coliphage Qß [PDF]
Understanding virus evolution is key for improving ways to counteract virus-borne diseases. Results from comparative analyses have previously suggested a trade-off between fecundity and lifespan for viruses that infect the bacterium Escherichia coli (i.e.

Incidence of coliphage in potable water supplies [PDF]
Samples of drinking water from different sources in greater Cairo, Egypt, and bottled drinking water were tested for total coliform, fecal coliform, and coliphage populations. Of the 147 samples tested, 4 samples were positive for both total coliforms and coliphage, 65 samples were negative for total coliforms, fecal coliforms, and coliphage, and 78 ...

Molecular Typing of Somatic Coliphage Groups and Their Occurrence and Survival in Sewage
A conventional, group-specific PCR method was developed to identify each of the four previously defined major taxa (Myoviridae, Siphoviridae, Podoviridae and Microviridae) of somatic coliphages and used to classify isolates from sewage. Somatic coliphage

Distribution of ribonucleic acid coliphages in animals [PDF]
To determine the distribution pattern of ribonucleic acid (RNA) coliphages (classified by serological groups I through IV) in animal sources, we isolated RNA phages from (i) feces samples from domestic animals (cows, pigs, horses, and fowls), some other animals in a zoological garden, and humans, (ii) the gastrointestinal contents of cows and pigs, and

ISOLATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF COLIPHAGE FROM UNTREATED WASTEWATER IN KUALA PILAH NEGERI SEMBILAN
Bacteriophages are viruses that can only infect bacterial cells and are perceptible in almost all places where living bacteria are found, as they are highly host specific.

Control of gene expression in P2-related coliphages: the in vitro transcription pattern of coliphage 186. [PDF]
Transcription in vitro of coliphage 186 DNA generated four transcripts. The most abundant transcript was that of the late control gene B and an equivalent transcript was identified for the closely related phage P2. A second transcript was from the rightward promoter at 75% and predicted to be under CI repressor control.
