T1ρ-based fibril-reinforced poroviscoelastic constitutive relation of human articular cartilage using inverse finite element technology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
BackgroundMapping of T1ρ relaxation time is a quantitative magnetic resonance (MR) method and is frequently used for analyzing microstructural and compositional changes in cartilage tissues.

Functional Biomaterials Derived from Protein Liquid–Liquid Phase Separation and Liquid‐to‐Solid Transition

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Protein can undergo liquid–liquid phase separation and liquid‐to‐solid transition to form liquid condensates and solid aggregates. These phase transitions can be influenced by post‐translational modifications, mutations, and various environmental factors.

Engineering Magnetotactic Bacteria as Medical Microrobots

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetotactic bacteria (MTB) are living microorganisms that produce magnetosomes for navigation using the Earth's geomagnetic field. Their built‐in magnetic components, along with their intrinsic and/or modified biological functions, make them one of the most promising platforms for making future living and programmable microrobots.

Coordinate roles for collagen VI and biglycan in regulating tendon collagen fibril structure and function

open access: yesMatrix Biology Plus, 2022
Tendon is a vital musculoskeletal tissue that is prone to degeneration. Proper tendon maintenance requires complex interactions between extracellular matrix components that remain poorly understood.

Identification of Collagen Fibrils in Scleroderma Skin

open access: yesJournal of Investigative Dermatology, 1988
Skin from early and late stages of scleroderma has been shown to contain large amounts of thin (30-40 nm diameter) collagen fibrils that may be present in bundles or intermingled with large diameter fibrils (90-120 nm). The nature of these fibrils is unknown.

Structured Light Projection Using Image Guide Fibers for In Situ Photo‐biofabrication

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Light‐based biofabrication is typically performed with single wavelength light sources and within benchtop devices. This work demonstrates FaSt‐Light (Fiber‐assisted Structured Light) as a new approach to achieve multiwavelength image projection using flexible image guide fibers, which enables a variety of applications for in situ biofabrication ...

Biomimetic Dynamics of Nanoscale Groove and Ridge Topography for Stem Cell Regulation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Dynamic nanoscale groove‐ridge structures are engineered by flexibly conjugating RGD‐magnetic nanoparticles to nanogroove templates with variable groove widths at the molecular scale. Magnetic control enables cyclic switching between nanoscale groove and ridge states that modulates ligand accessibility of cellular integrins.
