Creditor Rights and Innovation: Evidence from Patent Collateral
Journal of Financial Economics, 2017I show that patents are pledged as collateral to raise significant debt financing, and that the pledgeability of patents contributes to the financing of innovation.

This chapter looks at the surprising brittleness of AI and the way its reliance on proxies and shortcuts haunts its social application. It critiques the post-hoc attempts to ‘fix’ AI’s damaging effects through ethics, regulation or human intervention, and focuses on the way AI not only produces discrimination but intensifies existing structural ...

In this paper we study how the use of collateral is evolving under the influence of regulatory reform and changing market structure. We start with a critical review of the recent empirical literature on the supply and demand of collateral which has focussed on the issue of ‘collateral scarcity’.

Septal collateralization: Demonstration of canine intramyocardial collaterals
American Journal of Anatomy, 1989AbstractThe anatomical distribution of intra‐myocardial collateral arteries that develop from the septal to the other major coronary arteries was studied in dogs following gradual Ameroid occlusion of tftt circumflex artery. The Economics of Collateral and of Collateral Reform
2008The chapters presented here provide, for the first time, a comprehensive and cutting-edge view of the subject – from both a legal and economic perspective. Collateral reuse, collateral mismatch, and financial crises
The Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance, 2018This paper builds a model that links collateral reuse, collateral allocation, and aggregate output. The model shows that collateral reuse affects aggregate output through two channels. First, collateral reuse allows multiple investment projects to be financed by economizing on scarce collateral, thereby increasing aggregate output.

Collateral, Taxes, and Leverage
, 2015We quantify the importance of collateral versus taxes for firms' capital structures. We estimate a dynamic model in which a taxable firm seeks financing for investment, and a dynamic contracting environment motivates endogenous collateral constraints ...
