Inflammation and mechanical force‐induced bone remodeling

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Periodontitis arises from imbalanced host–microbe interactions, leading to dysbiosis and destructive inflammation. The host's innate and adaptive immune responses produce pro‐inflammatory mediators that stimulate destructive events, which cause loss of alveolar bone and connective tissue attachment.

Rapid oxygen release from stored red blood cells can be preserved for longer with refined additive solutions

open access: yesTransfusion, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Stored red blood cells (RBCs) progressively lose metabolic and structural features that are critical for efficient oxygen release, potentially reducing transfusion efficacy. Compared to the standard storage additive saline‐adenine‐glucose‐mannitol (SAGM), successive refinements such as phosphate‐adenine‐glucose‐guanosine‐saline ...

Planned en bloc resection using veno‐venous bypass for an extensive retroperitoneal sarcoma with a caval thrombus in a dog

open access: yesVeterinary Surgery, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective To report the successful complete resection of an extensive retroperitoneal sarcoma (RPS) with a caval thrombus using veno‐venous bypass (VVB) to facilitate temporary caudal vena cava (CVC) occlusion. Study design Case report. Animal A 12‐year‐old neutered male Standard Poodle.

Blood flow restriction: The acute effects of body tilting and reduced gravity analogues on limb occlusion pressure

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Blood flow restriction (BFR) has been identified as a potential countermeasure to mitigate physiological deconditioning during spaceflight. Guidelines recommend that tourniquet pressure be prescribed relative to limb occlusion pressure (LOP); however, it is unclear whether body tilting or reduced gravity analogues influence LOP.
