Summary The current classification of sweat gland carcinomas is based on histomorphological characteristics and distinguishes between more than 20 entities. Most patients are older, but some subtypes also affect middle‐aged and younger patients. The majority of tumors arise de novo. Sweat gland carcinomas have nonspecific clinical features.

Collecting duct carcinoma is an unusual variant of renal cell carcinoma, whose appearance and behavior are not well established. We identified six cases of collecting duct carcinoma in our files. The clinical, pathologic, and immunohistochemical characteristics of these tumors are reported. The most common symptom was gross hematuria (four cases).

Cortically located collecting duct carcinoma

Collecting duct carcinoma is a rare, highly aggressive, renal tumor arising from the distal collecting ducts. Various histologic patterns can be found in the same tumor but most demonstrate duct-like or papillary architecture surrounded by desmoplastic stroma.

Six cases of renal epithelial neoplasms, which show atypical histological features previously described in cases of collecting duct carcinomas, are presented. The tumours were of a tubulo‐papillary architecture, arose in the renal medulla and showed prominent infiltrating tubules with an associated desmoplastic reaction.
