Collective decision making by embodied neural agents

open access: yesPNAS Nexus
Abstract Collective decision making using simple social interactions has been studied in many types of multiagent systems, including robot swarms and human social networks. However, existing multiagent studies have rarely modeled the neural dynamics that underlie sensorimotor coordination in embodied biological agents.

Sex Differences in Medication Discontinuation in Axial Spondyloarthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We examined sex differences in medication discontinuation among patients with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) initiating tumor necrosis factor inhibitors (TNFi), interleukin‐17 inhibitors (IL‐17i), or JAK inhibitors (JAKi). Methods Using data from the Rheumatology Informatics System for Effectiveness (RISE) Registry (2003–2025), we assessed ...

An Improved Football Team Training Algorithm for Global Optimization

open access: yesBiomimetics
The football team training algorithm (FTTA) is a new metaheuristic algorithm that was proposed in 2024. The FTTA has better performance but faces challenges such as poor convergence accuracy and ease of falling into local optimality due to limitations ...

Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.

Adjustment of Coatings Morphology and Particle Distribution of Layered Silicates by Freeze‐Drying for Improved Gas Barriers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Freeze‐drying of layered silicate is the key to get coatings with superior gas barrier. Freeze‐drying of layered silicates modified with dodecylamine (DDA) is a highly effective technique for the preparation of barrier pigments that significantly mitigate the permeation of oxygen, water vapor, and hydrogen through polymer films containing these ...

Self-organizing collections and collective agents

open access: yes, 2006
Advances in understanding self-organization over the past few decades have led to the temptation to extend it to a model of human cognition. The extension is supported by new insights in situated cognition and success in reproducing quite complex behaviors in robots without any centralized control.

Innovating Aircraft Repair Processes: The Role of Digitalization in Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This research explores how digitalization—by storing detailed non‐destructive testing data in structured DICONDE databases and creating a standard data model of the component—innovates aviation maintenance and repair processes. Coupled with a developed state‐based simulation model, it enables data‐driven, sustainable repair strategies that reduce waste,

One guild, two merchants, and common property. A social capital crisis in textile manufacturing during the 18th century

open access: yesRevista de Historia Industrial
A case study of the wool carders’ guild in Estella-Lizarra (Navarre) from the 16th to 19th centuries questions prevalent opinions among historians, which have tended to define these collective action institutions as monopolies. This study complements the

Biodegradable and Recyclable Luminescent Mixed‐Matrix‐Membranes, Hydrogels, and Cryogels based on Nanoscale Metal‐Organic Frameworks and Biopolymers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The study presents biodegradable and recyclable mixed‐matrix membranes (MMMs), hydrogels, and cryogels using luminescent nanoscale metal‐organic frameworks (nMOFs) and biopolymers. These bio‐nMOF‐MMMs combine europium‐based nMOFs as probes for the status of the materials with the biopolymers agar and gelatine and present alternatives to conventional ...
