OPINIONS ABOUT MILITARY LOGISTICS IN A TURBULENT MEDIUM SECURITY [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals: Series on Military Sciences, 2013
In the natural world, turbulence involves violent demonstrations, random appearances, unpredictability. Scientists have developed chaos theory to explain some possible variants of development of events that have a given initial state and a number of ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

On the Ruin Problem of Collective Risk Theory

open access: yesThe Annals of Mathematical Statistics, 1961
0. Summary. The theory of collective risk deals with an insurance business, for which, during a time interval (0, t) (1) the total claim X(t) has a compound Poisson distribution, and (2) the gross risk premium received is Xt. The risk reserve Z(t) = u + Xt - X(t), with the initial value Z(O) = u, is a temporally homogeneous Markov process.

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

The Challenge of Invisible Enemies and Risk Mitigation for Parents in Educating Children in the Modern Era

open access: yesMu'adalah
This study explores the hidden challenges faced by parents in educating children in the modern era, referred to as “invisible enemies”, focusing on digital technology, individualism, academic pressure, peer influence and consumerist culture.

Cultivating Doxastic Responsibility

open access: yesHumana.Mente: Journal of Philosophical Studies, 2021
This paper addresses some of the contours of an ethics of knowledge in the context of ameliorative epistemology, where this term describes epistemological projects aimed at redressing epistemic injustices, improving collective epistemic practices, and ...

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...
