Role of non-collective excitations in subbarrier fusion reactions

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2011
We carry out a large scale coupled-channels calculations in order to discuss the effect of non-collective excitations on heavy-ion fusion and quasi-elastic scattering at subbarrier energies. To this end, we take into account all the states in 208Pb below

Detection of nanoparticles suspended in a light scattering medium

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Intentionally intensifying the light scattering of medium molecules can allow the detection of suspended nanoparticles under conditions not suitable for conventional optical microscopies or laser particle counters. Here, we demonstrate how the collective

Collective reactions to the continuum in neutron scattering by niobium [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review C, 1995
The preequilibrium cross sections for the direct excitation of collective states, including giant resonances, in the continuum region, are calculated and combined with the multistep direct, multistep compound, and compound nucleus cross sections to give a complete analysis of neutron scattering by niobium.

Theory of neutron scattering for gapless neutral spin-1 collective mode in graphite [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Using tight binding band picture for 2D graphite, and the Hubbard interaction, recently we obtained a gapless, neutral spin-1 collective mode branch in graphite [Phys. Rev. Lett. 89, 016402].

Observation of Relativistic Effects in Collective Thomson Scattering [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2010
We observe relativistic modifications to the Thomson scattering spectrum in a traditionally classical regime: v(osc)/c = eE(0)/cmomega(0)

Inelastic electron and light scattering from the elementary electronic excitations in quantum wells: Zero magnetic field

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2012
The most fundamental approach to an understanding of electronic, optical, and transport phenomena which the condensed matter physics (of conventional as well as nonconventional systems) offers is generally founded on two experiments: the inelastic ...

Experimental mapping of short-wavelength phonons in proteins

open access: yesThe Innovation, 2022
Phonons are quasi-particles, observed as lattice vibrations in periodic materials, that often dampen in the presence of structural perturbations. Nevertheless, phonon-like collective excitations exist in highly complex systems, such as proteins, although

Cavity-Controlled Collective Scattering at the Recoil Limit [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2011
We study collective scattering with Bose-Einstein condensates interacting with a high-finesse ring cavity. The condensate scatters the light of a transverse pump beam superradiantly into modes which, in contrast to previous experiments, are not determined by the geometrical shape of the condensate, but specified by a resonant cavity mode.

Prediction of inelastic light scattering spectra from electronic collective excitations in GaAs/AlGaAs core-multishell nanowires [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We predict inelastic light scattering spectra from electron collective excitations in a coaxial quantum well embedded in a core-multishell GaAs/AlGaAs nanowire.

Neutron frequency windows and the protein dynamical transition

open access: yes, 2004
Proteins undergo an apparent dynamical transition on temperature variation that has been correlated with the onset of function. The transition in the mean-square displacement, ∆r2 , that is observed using a spectrometer or computer simulation, depends on
