Community Use of the Sacred Heart School [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
In October 2005, the Edmonton Social Planning Council (ESPC) released a report entitled The Sacred Heart Collective: An Effective Use of a Closed School? which evaluated the unique initiative implemented by the Sacred Heart Collective (the Collective), a

Giant Collective Spin-Orbit Field in a Quantum Well: Fine Structure of Spin Plasmons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We employ inelastic light scattering with magnetic fields to study intersubband spin plasmons in a quantum well. We demonstrate the existence of a giant collective spin-orbit (SO) field that splits the spin-plasmon spectrum into a triplet.

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Bi-local Construction of Sp(2N)/dS Higher Spin Correspondence

open access: yes, 2012
We derive a collective field theory of the singlet sector of the Sp(2N) sigma model. Interestingly the hamiltonian for the bilocal collective field is the same as that of the O(N) model.

Fragment properties of fragmenting heavy nuclei produced in central and semi-peripheral collisions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Fragment properties of hot fragmenting sources of similar sizes produced in central and semi-peripheral collisions are compared in the excitation energy range 5-10 AMeV.

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Apartment Building on Virrey Avilés Street. Buenos Aires, Argentina, 2022

open access: yesARQ
The Apartment Building in Virrey Avilés and the Small Family Cohousing are shaped by the constraints of their respective sites. The former occupies a typical lot in Buenos Aires, with a width of 8.66 meters, where circulations and collective spaces are ...

Measurements and simulations of seeded electron microbunches with collective effects

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2015
Measurements of the longitudinal phase-space distributions of electron bunches seeded with an external laser were done in order to study the impact of collective effects on seeded microbunches in free-electron lasers.

We Live Surrounded by Pigs: Naming the Space

open access: yesLinguistik Online, 2017
The geographical nickname is a complex entity, both geographic, social and linguistic. The study is a sociolinguistic one. It focuses on the relation between language and space in Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Romania.

Active particles in heterogeneous media display new physics: existence of optimal noise and absence of bands and long-range order [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We present a detailed study of the large-scale collective properties of self-propelled particles (SPPs) moving in two-dimensional heterogeneous space. The impact of spatial heterogeneities on the ordered, collectively moving phase is investigated.
