Collembola’s role in regulating mass fluxes in soil and the effects of contrasting life histories [PDF]
The study determined metabolic rates and elemental pools for two Collembola species with contrasting life histories. The fittest of the two species, P. minuta, excreted the equivalent of 10–12% of the elemental body content per day, and P.

Urban Microfarms: Hot or Cold Spots for Plants and Soil Biodiversity?
Investigation of soil and plant biodiversity in urban microfarms on the ground and on rooftops. ABSTRACT Urban agriculture plays a key role in urban ecosystems functionality and resilience, and can take many forms: allotment gardens, community garden or urban microfarms.

Unravelling collembolan life belowground: Stoichiometry, metabolism and release of carbon and nitrogen [PDF]
This thesis investigated carbon and nitrogen dynamics of soil dwelling Collembola by using direct measurements and stable isotope additions. In an isotope change experiment, collembolans exchanged between 6 and 10% of carbon and nitrogen in their body ...

Plant and Soil Function Increase With Larger and Older Coarse Woody Debris
ABSTRACT Aim Coarse woody debris is increasingly being used in ecological restoration. We aimed to assess the global impacts of woody debris on ecosystem properties and functions. Location Global. Major Taxa Studied Soil biota, plants, soil function. Methods We conducted a quantitative global meta‐analysis of 66 studies (5234 observations) to assess ...

Abundance of Collembola in Biopore Infiltration Holes Filled with Organic Waste and Animal Waste
Garbage and flooding are environmental problems that need attention. One solution to dealing with organic waste and flooding is the creation of biopore absorption holes (LRB). Organic waste can be processed into compost with the help of soil animals such

Resilience of riparian spiders to floods: evidence from a mesocosm study
Mesocosm experiment to assess the impact of flood duration on flood‐naïve riparian spider communities. In May, spider richness decreased with flood duration, while in June, flood duration increased abundance, richness and promoted wetland specialists. Flood‐naïve riparian spiders unexpectedly appear highly resilient to flooding.

An introduction to Iranian Collembola (Hexapoda): an update to the species list
The Collembola fauna of Iran is little known and no comprehensive examination of this group of Hexapoda is available for this region. The only notable work on Collembola was carried out by Cox (1982).
