Non-Collinear Ferromagnetic Luttinger Liquids

open access: yes, 2010
The presence of electron-electron interactions in one dimension profoundly changes the properties of a system. The separation of charge and spin degrees of freedom is just one example.

Hierarchical Summary Statistics Encoding Across Primary Visual and Posterior Parietal Cortices

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study shows that mouse V1 simultaneously encodes the ensemble mean and variance of motion, providing a robust summary‐statistic representation that persists despite single‐neuron variability. These signals propagate to PPC, where they are transformed into abstract category representations during decision making.

Molecular Evolution of RAMOSA1 (RA1) in Land Plants

open access: yesBiomolecules
RAMOSA1 (RA1) is a Cys2-His2-type (C2H2) zinc finger transcription factor that controls plant meristem fate and identity and has played an important role in maize domestication.

Some aspects of the translog production function estimation [PDF]

open access: yes
In a translog production function, the number of parameters practically ”explodes” as the number of considered production factors increases. Consequently, the shortcoming in the estimation of the respective production function is the occurrence of ...

Telomere‐to‐Telomere Genomes Reveal that Multiscale Evolution Shapes the Largest Metabolic Arsenal of Diaporthe Fungi

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents the first telomere‐to‐telomere genomes and population resources for Diaporthe pathogens, uncovering the largest known fungal repertoire of secondary metabolite gene clusters. Structural variations and horizontal gene transfer drive cluster diversification, while specific rapidly evolving clusters control virulence, offering novel ...

Life Satisfaction: Insights from the World Values Survey

open access: yesSocieties
This paper explores enduring influences on life satisfaction using empirical analysis of World Values Survey (WVS) data (four versions of the most comprehensive dataset, namely 1.6, 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0).

Linking and Weighting Efficiency Estimates with Stock Performance in Banking Firms [PDF]

open access: yes
The purpose of this paper is to contribute further evidence on bank efficiency by defining alternative measures of costs when estimating efficiency and competitive viability by linking the results of efficiency estimates to market returns of financial ...

Helix Alignment, Chevrons, and Edge Dislocations in Twist‐Bend Ferroelectric Nematics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The recently discovered twist‐bend ferroelectric nematic (NTBF) is the new member of the multiferroic family, representing a fluid with an oblique helicoidal (heliconical) periodic structure of spontaneous electric polarization. The work presents a thorough exploration of the material properties of this phase, how the periodic modulation of ...

Facilitation from collinear flanks is cancelled by non-collinear flanks

open access: yesVision Research, 2000
Detection of a central Gabor pattern is facilitated by the presence of collinear flanking patterns. We find that this facilitation is greatly reduced when the collinear flanks are combined with non-collinear flanks to form a coherent surround. These results are unlikely to be explained by mechanisms that merely transduce local contrast in a nonlinear ...

BLADE‐ON‐PETIOLE Genes Enable Genetic Bottleneck Mitigation Through Cross‐Species Repurposing of Floral Persistence Traits

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study shows that BLADE‐ON‐PETIOLE (BOP) proteins regulate floral abscission and senescence in tomato by interacting with TFAM1 to form transcriptional condensates controlling the ARABIDOPSIS THALIANA HOMEOBOX GENE 1 (ATH1)‐mediated abscission pathway.
